You got your 16 penny nail, you got your hammer, you got your two pieces of lumber you want to stick together, you get here started and that’s when all of the sudden things go wrong.
A second alternative to nailing these two pieces of framing members together is a nail gun. Always wear safety glasses. It releases an explosion of air so that in one quick shot, you end up getting these two pieces together. But there are some inherent dangers about using framing nailers. This is a palm nail. It works exactly like its name. you hold it on the palm of your hand, you buy store bought nails, they drive nails of many different sizes.
The way that a palm nail works is you simply you take your store bought nail, place it on the two pieces of wood you want to put together, give a little bit of a press. Once you get it started, basically, this palm nail works like a mini jackhammer driving the nail all the way down.
So there you go. The palm nailer. It’s not an acquired skill like you have to have with hand drive nails. Pretty much, anybody can do it. It doesn’t require a lot of upper body strength. Maybe you won’t be so sore when you go to the office the next day. But it’s not near so dangerous as a framing nailer where serious injuries could resolve. I think that this would be real nice to have in somebody’s toolbox if you’re a homeowner or novice remodeler.
