Coach Smith: So our setters come early every single practice and do some wall drills. The first thing they do is make sure they are in a bent knee position, okay; the right foot is in front, shoulder is up. And this is just getting our hands warmed up primarily. This is also for a quick set, they are right on the wall, they are one foot away. It is nice and quick and they are just using their hands.
After they do 50 of these, they are going to take a step back and they are going to aim for a little bit higher, roughly about probably two or three blocks above where they were past setting before, and you block tight. Go ahead. Let's roll a second tempo ball, a ball that is either in front of or behind you that is roughly three feet away, four feet away. It is nice consistent tempo. They want to hit the same spot all 50 times that is there goal.
Okay, keep the ball under control and hit the same spot 50 times. We breed on consistency, even on a simple wall drill. After they do that 50 time, they are going to take another step back. Now they are trying to get the ball up nice and high so we are working on our out of system sets, go ahead. A high ball to the outside, a high ball to the right side, anything on the system. Virginia bring yours down a little bit. That is about -- that is the perfect spot there Virginia, right there, good.
Again, it is about block, block-and-a-half higher than the last one. Again, I want 50 balls to the same spot. After they do these 50 balls, we are bringing them in for a little ball control workout. And they want to set the ball as a quick. Go ahead, do not hit yourself, and now they want to progress so they are in an Indian style sitting position while they continue to sit.
Go ahead and they work their way down. Maggi is pretty good at this, and then you stand up while you continue setting and you just keep doing it, 10 times. And Maggi goes down to her knees and then she sits, tries to keep setting, Virginia is going to do it now. She is a freshman, we will see if she can handle this, tires to sit. Good, she made all the way down; now let us see if she can get up, without trying to -- there you go.
So again, it works on your ability to get down on the ground and continue setting, it works on your hands. Good job.
