Coach Smith: Just break down the backs at once for a second here. As the ball comes forward to our setter they look the same as they always are, their knees should be bent, there hips are forward, there shoulder forward. They are here, if they set out, they extend forward, and the right foot steps up and their left foot drags as they fall in to the ball. Okay, now the ball is coming in, they are bent still, elbows are bent, and when they go in instead of back they are still going to step forward and their hips and everything thrusts back at the last second.
Her hands just extend, there is no wrist action, it's just an extension. The hands just move, why do you rely on this. That is now what is -- the power of everything we do, whether we are jumping, squatting, and moving all comes from her core and hips. So as you watch Margaret, really watch her hip action and then the shoulders move nice and fast. It starts here and it powers all the way through her body and as we move her around we will be able to see why it is so important.
Nice and easy and the ball goes back. Now let us move her, let us make it tough. Virginia, ready. She gets that ball back no matter where she is at. She may get close to her and wants consistency; we want everybody to get that ball back there. Notice how her hips come through and then the shoulders go, whether she is up in it, she still can get it back there. It is all in her movement. The power has got to come from below it cannot come from above, good, okay.
