Short Bat Front Toss Drill

Alright, we've got the same drill front toss drill, but as you can see we have the hitter with a little bat here. The idea behind the little bat is to have the hitter have less bat to actually try to swing so they can concentrate and get a feel for specific thing and in this instance it's going to be -- we want to concentrate on letting the ball get deep and getting a feel for the right hitting position for that pits that's over the outer half and even more in particular the outer third.

Also you have to do a good job of still staying inside the baseball because the sweet spot is so small in order to drive the ball the right way you have to stay inside the baseball and you've got to make sure that the barrel is in the proper hitting position at point of contact or the ball obviously won't go anywhere, it's going to sting your hands if you get jammed or you miss hit it -- hit it off the end of the bat. So the little bat gives you a little bit less bat to handle, but it also gives you a lot less room for error. So you can hopefully work on your swing, you will have to think about make it try get my hands to the zone so quick because again you don't want to be too quick because this bat so light it's going to swing through the zone faster than what the normal bat will be. So you really got to be disciplined, let the ball get deep, keep your weight back, and again staying inside the baseball all key points with this drill that we do with the little bat, and we want to concentrate on driving the ball back off the screen or the other way.

Good! Once again if we are focusing on hitting the ball middle away even if the pitch is a strike on the inside part of the play it's alright for the purpose of this drill to take it because we are concentrating on a little bit different swing path and contact point than we would be if we are talking about to pitch in. And again that's another drill that you can do. So if we've got almost for this purpose of the drill that we are doing we want to cut the ball -- or the plate in half and if the pitch is middle in just take it, if the pitch is middle out that's what we are looking for.
