When a couple I know announces their engagement, do I need to send a gift? Engagement gifts are not required gifts. The exception to that rule is if you know the engaged couple very, very well, or if you are a close family member, you may want to send an engagement present. Don’t feel obligated to do that. When you hear the happy news about a couple, you can send a card just saying, “Congratulations, I heard your wonderful news, I am so happy for you.” D not feel obligated to send a gift for an engagement.
