Maggie: Hi! I am Maggie Royal from Long Beach, California, and my question is should I regularly undertake vaginal douching? Gail Wyatt: Maggie you raise a really good point. A lot of women were taught early in life to douche in order to be clean, but today we know that our body can clean and cleanse itself. After menstruation and after intercourse we really need to allow the body to take care of bacteria. If you douche what happens is that you actually push the bacteria further and faster into the uterus and fallopian tubes. The best thing to do is let the body handle bacteria on its own.
