Should You Vaccinate Children with Whooping Cough

Male Speaker: If child got whooping cough, whatever the reason, say a young baby, should we not give the pertussis vaccine later on or should we still give the pertussis vaccine?

Male Speaker: The recommendation is still to give the vaccine on the regular schedule regardless of whether pertussis had been contracted by the child or not. The idea is that we are never totally certain whether the infection was caused by the bacteria that causes pertussis or whether it was caused by an associated bacteria or virus which can minute pertussis. Therefore, since we can never be 100% certain, it's much safer to give the vaccine since the risk of the vaccine is very, very small.
