Shred Alert with Paul Gilbert - Pick Hand Exercise

So almost anything that I warm up with, one of my hopes is that I can eventually use it in a piece of music. I don’t want warm ups to be only, you know, a muscle-building exercise. I want them to be musical. So another thing that I do with this technique is I took a harmonic minor scale. The scale that charms, it’s the snake-charming scale. And I harmonized it the chords. So the chords are, and I picked those same technique of the down and 2 ups from 2 ups and a down. Let’s see how it sounds. Something like that. Ah, wonderful, let’s try it with some distortion because that will be metal. Excellent!
So I’d like the sound as that kind of tonality to it. And I suppose the one trick is I think I anticipate each chord and move a little sooner than the down beat. I find that out when I tried to teach the parts to my wife on keyboards and it didn’t work. And I realized that I’m switching the chords too fast. So, keep that in mind when playing. And try your own chords. This is a technique that you can put any chords you want to. So don’t limit yourself to the snake charming harmonic minor scale or the A minor triads. Try anything you like that sounds good to your ears. And warm up your hand and use it in music. Rock and roll!
