Many midwives feel a good idea to have the child there, so they are better able to handle the experience in a healthier way. On the other hand some others feel that having their child there will destruct them from having a happy birth experience. It's important to talk to your child about attending the birth, and see how they feel about the idea, see how comfortable it makes them feel.
