So, you want to be looking at these, counting and just seeing how many line notes, base notes there are up, and then just go from there. So, if you know this is an F, two space notes up from that is going to be a C. Or one note above an F is a G, so you will just be looking through that here. It is on an F and then goes down to an E. So, you are just going one note down.
So, you do not actually have to look down. You want to minimize the amount of time here looking down. You do not want to be like (unable to transcribe). You are going to get dizzy. I am getting dizzy just doing that.
Okay, you just want to look at the note and let your fingers play up and down. So, what I do is look at somewhere else other than the keyboard and start on C with your thumb, like this. (Piano playing) Now, without looking, I want you to hit this note up here, G. Then the 3rd, hit this note, and that note. So, you can get a feel for how many notes up you are going.
So, without looking, you should just know, “Okay, I am on F here” and then (piano playing). So, let us start from there and there (piano playing).
Great. I am trying to look at the camera and the music and my hand at the same time, but that should not be it. (Piano playing) Sound familiar? It is “My Heart Will Go On” from the Titanic, super easy version.
Anyway, on your site reading, you want to also keep going along. You do not want to wait. If you miss a note, just keep going. Pretend like you did not miss the note and you played the right note or something, because when you are site-reading, you just want to fake it.
Also, when you perform and you want to do that, too. (Unable to transcribe) So, if you make a mistake while you are playing, just keep going. No one will know.
A lot of people, when you are performing, and they are like (unable to transcribe), they are not even paying attention. So, if you stop playing and go, “Oh, crap” and fiddle around, people are going to wake up and go, “Oh, he made a mistake” but if you just keep going like you did not make a mistake, they are not going to notice. It will probably just be like “Oh that sounded bad. That piece is not so nice.” That is why they are not paying attention.
Anyway, when you are within those chords, those are actually harder to site-read because there are more notes at one time. But again, instead of trying to find the note and figure out the name of that note, then looking at them and trying to figure out the name of that note, just find one note and count down until you get that note. If there is a sharp or flat next to one of those, just find the note that is there and then read the sign above it.
So, if you are playing a C, there will be an A-flat underneath that. You think of hitting the A first, and then once you get to the A, then you hit (piano playing), and then go from there (unable to transcribe), something like that.
I am starting to run out of ideas here, guys. Also, I have been a lot more tired lately. I spent five-something hours yesterday, getting my exhaust pit over to the mechanic shop. This guy, Dave, we ran into some problems with the exhaust on our truck. So, it sounded a lot better now but, that is like three pipes and one broken pipe expander later. Also, I need to buy some stuff and all these things are way up on the other side of town.
So, I was just racing back and forth, something is broken and then we have to go back and get something else. That is pretty retarded. It should have only taken about two hours, but it ended up taking five. Actually, I think I might close the video, take the video and then (unable to transcribe).
Anyway, I think I will probably be posting up videos of me performing a few pieces that I have been working on pretty soon. So, I want to do that. The songs by Bach –they are almost ready, I think.
Anyway, if you guys have any suggestions (unable to transcribe), I draw blank here. Well, you will be hearing from me again. Take care. Keep practicing.
