Chuck: Hi! I am Chuck, 36, from Detroit, and I'd like to know what are the signs if someone is having a heart attack?
Christine Lawless: Thanks for asking that question, Chuck. There is a lot of misconceptions about signs and symptoms of a heart attack.
Typically, we think of it as being a crushing chest pain, radiating down into the left arm.
However, the same nerves that supply the heart with our ability to feel what's going on with it, also supply other organs and parts of the body anything from the waist up can be coming from the heart.
For instance, you could experience a jaw pain, you could experience pain in the other arm, you could experience pain in the back or in the head. If those pains last longer than 30 minutes, come on suddenly and are associated with other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, dizziness, these are all things to take very seriously, and perhaps consider going to the emergency room.
