Simple Tips to Prevent and Treat Prediabetes
Dr. Jim Sears: Now treatments -- pre-diabetes can be prevented, simply by
losing some weight and it’s not a whole lot of weight you need
to lose, just about 7% of your body weight. If you’re 200
pounds, just about 15 pounds, it’s not that hard to do and
exercise.
Dr. Drew Ordon: Well, Jim is mentioning the diet. One thing you need to add to
the diet is broccoli. Broccoli contains a compound called
sulforaphane which has an enzyme that specifically has an
effect on your blood vessels to help prevent those problems like
you saw in that diabetic foot.
Dr. Travis Stork: And broccoli, you know what, it comes from the ground and
replacing processed foods that are loaded with simple carbs,
with vegetables like broccoli. You’re going to go a long way to
those blood sugar swings that lead to diabetes. And Cathy, we
can’t applaud you enough because you’ve taken control, you’ve
got the diagnosis of pre-diabetes, that means you’re on this path
to type-2 diabetes.
But, believe it or not, you can turn that path around and go back
to a normal blood sugar range if you just keep doing what
you’re doing and we’re going to wish you and everyone else
out there suffering from pre-diabetes the best of success.
