Skin Care for Older Women

Jen: I am Jen from Minneapolis, Minnesota and I am turning 40 this year and thinking about stepping up my skin care regime. I would like to know if over the counter creams and lotions really can improve fine lines and wrinkles?

Vesna Petronic Rosic: Hi, Jen! It is very important to take care of your skin even as early as your 30s and 40s because that way you'll prevent fine lines and wrinkles that will appear later in life. The most important thing that you can do is to start regularly using sunscreen on a daily basis.

Also moisturizing your skin by using an over-the-counter moisturizer that has in-built sunscreen will not only prevent fine lines and wrinkles but it will also diminish the ones that you may already see appearing. If you use a moisturizer that contains alpha hydroxy acid that will slough off the surface, dead cells on your skin that may not be coming off on their own oldness as readily as they used to and also help retain moisture which will plump up the surface layer and give you a healthy and young appearance.
