Hey what is up guys, Walt here and please do not forget to subscribe, rate and comment and right now let get to one of my student question here on my show. When reading sheet on music from a piano, vocal guitar, I come across some chords on the sheet for instance, G or F# or Gmaj7 over A. So what does this mean? You are going to play all this chords or is this wanted for guitar and the other for piano? The answer is that, no, not mean for anything, both stalls that you have. Both guesses were incorrect. Check this out.
Now I want a piece of music that is not like this. Also, there is a part of links in my video description so definitely check it out. Let us befriend each other, let us be friend and let us talk. So here we have this, I if write a chord right here, C over E. Okay, what it is saying is that I am going to be playing my C\E. It is a pretty a slash chords. What they do is that, I am playing, this time I am going to play my C chord but make sure I got my E is on the base, make sure that my E is the lowest note. So, how do I do this? Well, let us a play an A slash board here. I just do this. Here is my C chord. Let us play C on top here and let us put E in the base. Now let us make this as a C\D chord. So, C\D. it is going to sound like this.
If I were to make this as C\C chord, then there is really no purpose to write it. If a chord is written down as just the letter, C, D, F or whatever, it is assumed to be in first position which is just the root is on the bottom. So here is the C chord over C. Now, what I am going to ever to need to know or need for example doing it in a slash chord. Well, this C over D sounds pretty cool to me, right. And let us put it back down to a C. Go in to the first position, so we will listen to this, ready?
So I went right there, I went from the C over D to a C chord. Is that simple? C or F# sounds good? Yes it does. I mean if you space it properly. So, if you needed it, then yes, all of that stuff works. You can do with C over A which will give you a kind of like a minor sound obviously but--.
Half tone with these slash chords, make up your own and just understand that if your C, by the way, your C over D is the same thing as C9 chord, right? Whereas, C add 9 and so just know that the C add 9 is not the same as a C over D. C over D is strictly by C chord at top with the D on the base and the C add 9, the D can be anywhere. So, this is the C9. See this.
So that is the idea and they can be on slash chords not from within and try writing a song to it, and that is how you get it guys because you learn by doing. So do it and play it forward if you hit someone that have found with it. Stay well everyone and be safe and send in your questions, because I would love to answer them, I really do.
