Jack: Hi! My name is Jack. I'm from Sarasota, Florida. I'm 69 years old. I have sleep apnea. What is the breathing assistance device, and how do I choose one? Dr. Eric Dyken: Jack, that device is called Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Therapy. You can call the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and they can show you a listing of the laboratories in your area that can give a study with this machine to make sure that your apneas are treated in all major sleep stages and in all major body positions. After that study is done, this laboratory will work with your local healthcare providers to make sure, you can get a machine and then that laboratory will follow you to make sure that you have long-term compliance and comfort and successful therapy with that machine.
