Small Business Advice - Technology Makeover
Kristin Tucker: A lot of small businesses have concerns about how can they prolong the life of their software, hardware overall technology investment and how they can keep things running longer or less like it.
One of the first things that come to mind is making sure that you are using the right equipment for the right job. You don’t need huge horse power in a computer if you’re working on word documents all day.
Making sure that you’ve got the right memory levels in your computers, it is very easy to add memory to a machine and that can keep you running better, faster or stronger for an extended period of time. Another way to really sure up that investment is making sure that you always keep your anti-virus software current.
If you’re going to make those software investments, you’re going to do yourself a huge de-service if you open yourself up to the risk that comes along with the viruses and all of the crazy stuff that people feel compelled to shoot around all over.
A hardware is kind of a funny thing because people do think of it as an entire package. When you look at the best buy ads on the weekends, they come with the printer and the CPU and the monitor and the whole thing. There are websites out there all thought out tiger direct as a great example where you can buy individual pieces without having to replace the whole thing. If you are dying to get a new flat panel monitor and you don’t want to send the cost there’s no need to replace the CPU and the keyboard and all of that kind of stuff. Pull out the big font of monitor, put a flat panel in and you’ve done it for a couple of hundred bucks.
