Mario: Hi it’s Mario Armstrong here at the HP booth and I know many of you small business owners are interested in printing. Printing is so important for you to be able to print those documents crystal clear. So we’re hanging out with Martin because HP has several different solutions no matter how small or how large your small business is.
Hi Martin, how’s it going?
Martin: Good, how are you man?
Mario: Thanks for joining in and taking out some time.
Martin: No problem.
Mario: Got a lot of printers here.
Martin: A lot of printers
Mario: So let’s talk about may be an office let’s say about 5 employees or so. What’s the good printer for 5 or under?
Martin: Obviously you know, with HP we have a lot of printers. I think one of the things we’re really pushing, I think is a really a benefit for costumers is multi function. And the reason I think is—
Mario: Scanning, copying and faxing along with printing.
Martin: The one thing that we know is that copying is actually declining and printing is increasing, which really isn’t surprising if you think about right. Most documents start in electronic format whether it’s email, a word document and so in the past where maybe you made a copy and then pass it on 10 different people now just email it. Your email still attend to 10 different people and then in generally what they’re going to do is just to print it out.
Mario: Makes a lot of sense.
Martin: And so from a HP perspective we know that you still in need for copy but its more convenience copy as opposed to the big robust copying that you might have done at 10, 15 years ago. And so from we’ve done we actually built printer based multi function devices so these are just a laser jet printers that people that people have know for years and years. But we’ve added the copying and the scanning and the fax capabilities on top of it. And the nice thing is it’s at a priced point where the delta is really not that much more from a single file counterparts. This might be only a hundred dollars more than a single function counterpart.
Mario: So what model is this one right here?
Martin: This is a 2320.
Mario: And you think this one is a good one for those businesses that have 5 employees or so?
Martin: Yeah! It starts at $599.00. It’s network ready right of the back.
Mario: Is it Wi-Fi enable?
Martin: No, not integrated. But we do have wireless print server that you can buy. And because its network ready just plug that in and then you’re able to go wireless across the network.
Mario: On the higher end, what about the talk about a business for maybe 20 or so employees in the business, what do you have?
Martin: We got black and white products this is the 3035. Well actually this is the 3027, it’s a black and white it’s a 27 pages a minute it does networks scanning which means essentially you can for instance you can a document, you can scan it in you can send to any email address across the network without the need to have a PC there. It automatically converts it to PDF, so the ability to scan the PDF is pretty important.
Mario: That’s the nice feature.
Martin: That’s black and white. This is the color version of that. This is the 3530. It’s 30 pages a minute black and white, 30 pages minute colored. As you can see, it’s got a nice touch color user interface. Very easy to use, we actually won some awards for the ease of use of the control panel. Similar functionality.
Mario: Bigger work horse though.
Martin: Without question right, I mean this is going to be for as like you said if 20 users want to plug on this, this is going to be device that’s going to work for that. It’s a duty psyche on this or at least a month they page volume is much higher. This is the definitely geared for those bigger sort of work group, work group environment.
Mario: Really quickly, any tips to tell small business owners about how they can save on ink.
Martin: I don’t know if you can see what’s happening here. But what this thing is doing is actually duplexing what that means is basically it’s 2 sided printing. So I think one of the key things and you can see it’s kind of—
Mario: I did so, I think I saw it come out and then kind of went back in.
Martin: And basically what’s that doing it is printing on both sides. And so a lot of people I think may not be aware of the fact that most of our devices or a lot of these devices certainly that I showed you here do have that 2 sided printing capability.
Mario: And that save you a lot of paper as well.
Martin: That can actually decrease your cost by almost 50% in many cases right? I mean I think being able to utilizing that, utilizing the duplex capability especially overtime is going to save you cost definitely on the paper. But also obviously on an ongoing basis your cost actually manages it over longer period of time is going to decrease.
Mario: Martin, we really appreciate the time, what is the biggest you’ve seen so far as it relates to the printer line being here at the CES show? Anything really standout, the people are really excited about?
Martin: I think this products here and I hate to bring down a product but the fact that we’ve got these more compact, robust, multifunction devices again printer based, they give you the functionality that you need at a price that’s much less than traditional copier. So I think just this line of multi-function device is probably the biggest sell for us. I think the costumers have been like wow!
Mario: I mean the shear size of what this thing could do really is appealing because it can fit in a lot of places easily on and off.
Martin: Just think about it, if you’re going to buy a color copier a true color copier that sits or stand on a floor that’s 30 pages a minute I mean you got to pay $8000.00 maybe give or take. But the point is this start at $24.99 so very robust product and again it is geared for the workers so it definitely it will get the job done in small environment.
Mario: Mart, we really appreciate the time man. Thanks so much for having a stop by at the HP booth here. Still more to come at HP. We just learned about some great printers and their line up. So much excitement happening at the international CES 2009, we’re going around the HP booth a little bit more to see what else is here.
