Alex Fees: I'm Alex Fees on Small Business Television. We're coming to you from the SEMA 2008, that's Specialty Equipment Market Association here in Las Vegas. Joining me here now is long-time golf announcer, Jim Kelly. Jim, how are you, sir?
Jim Kelly: Alex, I'm impressed. There is no teleprompter.
Alex Fees: Well, hey, we're just flying by the seat of our pants here. Tell about your experience here at SEMA. Is this new for you?
Jim Kelly: It's my first time here and I'm very impressed. They've done an outstanding job to traffic. You've had 70, 80, or 100 guests right here on SBTV so far.
Alex Fees: Absolutely.
Jim Kelly: My first time, we're doing a little marketing. I'm involved in a couple of non-golf marketing efforts as well, but we actually have a company that I'd like to introduce to you and your brother on SBTV to next year, called the Golf Network where we are developing programming that we shot in HD and beaming it out to 7000 country clubs and different green-grass shops. But also the programming is going to like Sports Authority, Dick's Sporting Goods, a lot of the high big-box retailers around the country.
So there is a national window that the programming that we own is in for tips like the Gary Player or Chi Chi or Frederick Couples or Mike Weir. Then there is a local window where they can run advertising for Sports Authority or Dick's, whoever the retailer might be and there are crawls down at the bottom of the screen, I mean not unlike your website, which has got a lot of activity on it for SBTV.
So if you're at a country club, you can run the menu for your Valentine's Day dance or your President's Club or scores from your member guests. So it's kind of well, it's kind of fun to be involved.
Alex Fees: So Jim, this is your endeavor or something you're associated with, your partners in this way?
Jim Kelly: That's a very good question. Let's see how I can-- the founders of fellow from California University at Cal. So he is a big Cal Bear football fan named Mark Biessman (ph) who made his fame and fortune at Commerce One. I just brought in a friend of mine because of the Charles Schwab Cup Golf Championship that we do on ESPN and have done on the golf channel for years.
I got to meet a fellow, Dave Pottruck who was the CEO of the Schwab organization. I became friends with Dave and his wife, Emily. Dave just came in as an investor and you can speculate, Alex, as you want to on what he invested, but his new title is Chairman of the Board.
So with the team of Mark Biessman (ph) and David Pottruck and the advertisers we're bringing on board and the golfers that we have, I mention Frederick Couples and Mike Weir. We just did a thing right here in Vegas; in fact, at Justin Timberlake's event, the charity event here.
Alex Fees: Oh, Yeah.
Jim Kelly: So I got Justin one-on-one, Frederick Couples and we get hall of famers like Chi Chi and Gary Player involved. I was just at the Schwab cup. We get Craig Stadler. So we think we're on an interesting track and the exciting part is owning a piece of it, right?
Alex Fees: Yeah, absolutely.
Jim Kelly: And owning the programming.
Alex Fees: Now this is in 2009 when SBTV.com viewers can expect more information about what you're talking about.
Jim Kelly: Absolutely, we can go to your website for more information because we'll advertise on SBTV.
Alex Fees: My bosses will appreciate that.
Jim Kelly: Soon, I guess more money out of Pottruck and Biessman (ph).
Alex Fees: You mentioned the Charles Schwab Golf event.
Jim Kelly: Right.
Alex Fees: We'd probably do ourselves a service here to talk about the golf events that you have not covered because there are fewer of them. What about that?
Jim Kelly: That's a good one. That's good. Are you a golfer?
Alex Fees: You can use that. I'm hacker. I'm terrible.
Jim Kelly: It's a great game. Where else do you yell for, shoot an eight and write down six?
Alex Fees: Yeah, there is this Carl Hudson (ph) on the movie last night, somebody mention the score and is that with or without cheating.
Jim Kelly: There is no cheating. As Chi Chi likes to say, for you amateurs, the best wood in the bag is the pencil.
Alex Fees: That's about right. I can get down on the green.
Jim Kelly: You're getting all my banquet stuff right there, all in one. There is a company in Houston though that we should say hello to because their slogan is small-business is good for America and Administaff is good for small business. Talking about our friends, Paul Sarvadi down there and Richard Rawson and Jay Mincks, and Administaff because they would be a perfect fit for SBTV.
Alex Fees: I could deal. We'll make - I'll make my note of that.
Jim Kelly: Call sales and marketing; they are in Burton, Ohio, and in St. Louis. Now, we were just saying hi to our friends at Administaff, right?
Alex Fees: That's right.
Jim Kelly: Paul and Richard and Jay know that small business is good for America and as Arnold Palmer has said, it's the only life-time contract, by the way, that Arnold Palmer has ever signed with Administaff. We did it on stage at the awards banquet. It was like the end of World War II. It was like being on the deck of the Missouri.
There was a table. I brought up Paul, the CEO. He brought up Arnold; they sat there, this time standing ovation. Paul had a tear in his eye and Arnold was -- but you think of all of Arnold's endorsement for Pennzoil and United Airlines and all the things that Arnold has done, Cadillac.
It's the only lifetime contract that he has ever signed and he signed it with Paul and Richard and Jay and Steve and the whole gang, the four amigos as I call them at Administaff.
Alex Fees: Jim, what about that aside of spending time with who's who of golf for the past, what, 35 years and being an --
Jim Kelly: My HR care like yours once.
Alex Fees: Really? You're aware it well.
Jim Kelly: Thank you.
Alex Fees: Being an entrepreneur and these endeavors you're talking about, how do you spend your time these days?
Jim Kelly: Skiing in Park City.
Alex Fees: Really?
Jim Kelly: Yeah.
Alex Fees: Is that home for you?
Jim Kelly: Park City, little ski town of about 7000 year round as well as to 30,000 when Sundance is there and the film festival, but it's 38 miles to the airport. I can go door-to-door in about 40 minutes if I have to.
Alex Fees: Your impression to SEMA 2008 more than 100,000 people here it sounds like. This is the first time you've been here.
Jim Kelly: First time. I guess there is about a 125-135,000. I am impressed with the varying merchandise products, services that are available. Also, impressed I think to be honest with you, how nice everybody has been. It seems kind of mellow. Nobody is really selling which is kind of different for an event like this.
At the PGA Merchandise Show that I've gone to in Orlando, everybody is selling; buy this golf club, buy this ball, but this for your pro-am. Here it's more, hey, come on, visit our kicker. Here are the latest speakers that we can put 16 speakers in your car or boat or a truck.
Alex Fees: If you go back to Dunlop booth right here, if you get a Dunlop tattoo on your body somewhere, they'll give you a set of tires.
Jim Kelly: Or the single woman?
Alex Fees: Have you seen any?
Jim Kelly: I don't mean to stump you. Yeah, they are but --
Alex Fees: I wouldn't know; I'm a married man.
Jim Kelly: But they all take credit cards.
Alex Fees: Hello! Alright, Jim Kelly, thank you for being here.
Jim Kelly: Alex, great to be with you and your team. Okay.
Alex Fees: My pleasure. It's good to meet you. We are in Las Vegas, Nevada. I'm Alex Fees on Small Business Television. You're logged on to SBTV.com.
