Tax Workshops
Jean Wetzler: This is Jean Wetzler. I’m talking with Rob Wilkerson from the small business self employ division about small business tax workshops. Rob what’s the program about and how does it work?
Rob Wilkerson: We designed our small business tax workshop program to help small business owners to understand and fulfill their federal tax responsibilities. The RS provides workshop materials guide and support in the systems to partner organization such as small business development centers, chamber or commerce and score, part of our organizations responses the workshops, which are instructed by volunteers who specialized in federal taxes.
Jean Wetzler: What’s included in typical workshop and is there a fee to attend?
Rob Wilkerson: The materials we provide cover a wide range of topics from the general overview of taxes to specifics such as record keeping and retirement plans. Constructors would generally tail up their presentation to the needs of the audience. Most workshops are free but some may have fees associate with them. Any fees charged by workshop are paid to the sponsoring organization not the IRS.
Jean Wetzler: How can a small business owner find a workshop and are there any educational alternative?
Rob Wilkerson: You can find the workshop listings through your area on our website. Go to irs.gov and type workshop in the search box. We’re working hard to make workshops available in all 50 states but if there are none scheduled yet in your community and area, there are some alternatives. Searching for workshop will also produce a link to our online classroom where you can play streaming video of the lessons using your computers media player. You can also have our free DVD which is called a virtual small business tax workshop online.
Jean Wetzler: Are you encouraging small business organizations to host workshops and how can they get in touch?
Rob Wilkerson: To welcome organization and serves small businesses to contact us in express interesting hosting small business tax workshops. We can either help them find qualified instructors. The organization can search irs.gov for SL; the next thing is for stakeholder lays on local contacts. That’s SL local contacts. Although there is a near area will supply them with everything, they need instructor guide power point presentations and handouts including the complete workshop on DVD.
