Small Business Stories - Friends for Life
Alex Fees: I’m Alex Fees on SBTV.com we are coming to you from near Denver, Colorado sight of a business conference sponsored by Michel Gerber he is no less than the small business crew ru the title of his conference this time is exploring the E lead and joining me here now is Dana Jessup. Dana is with her company called Friends for Life. Dana I’m guessing you are what.? CEO President, founder.
Dana Jessup: Yes, yes.
Alex Fees: All of them. What is Friends for Life in Denver Colorado?
Dana Jessup: Friends for Life is a company that provides non medical companionship and so to show engagement to seniors in the Denver Meditory.
Alex Fees: I have not heard that one design. Tell me more about and who did you come in and how did this come about?
Dana Jessup: I don’t have a background other than growing up. My parents always took in senior, elderly, family members so I really saw the struggle inside the family is trying to raise children work and take care of their elderly love ones and I saw senior is get ignored or warehouse in the nursing homes and really just loose their perfect and there tend to be.
Alex Fees: So what kind of services do you provide to these days because you said none medical?
Dana Jessup: None medical we become extended family pretty much to anything that’s not medical transportation. Really our goal is to reengage them and what brings them a sense of purpose and what brings them joy and life. So we’ve taken people fishing, we’ll take them out to concerts, events, lunch and spend that quality one on one time with them and they tend to miss in the society that so rushed and hurry and then sort of overlooked their value.
Alex Fees: So Dana if you do not have a background of this how did this come about I mean the —
Dana Jessup: Just by seniors and my love with connecting with people and we’ve got a great stuff at and can’ really creative and work really well with our seniors. Connecting with them, getting them to reconnect with what they love, getting them out in about, that’s our main goal is to make them feel valued and well a value is part of our society again.
Alex Fees: You’re matching your stuff I’m an employee is talking about?
Dana Jessup: I have a manger and we have about 14 companions that go out in the area so we’re constantly growing and finding new great people. We really don’t need a background all we need is somebody who enjoys engaging people, who enjoys seniors, who want to spend that one on one time. To bring value back someone.
Alex Fees: Again are you familiar or before this conference we’re you familiar with Michael Gerbers concepts and velocities?
Dana Jessup: Yes I’ve read both books so—
Alex Fees: How do you incorporate some of his police system and then what you do?
Dana Jessup: Well, I found that working in the business and on the business really you do really loose your patient and you loose your purpose. You get lost inside of the details so now we work, I work on the business and I have people who work in the business for me and that’s made all the difference that’s allowed us to grow and shift our focus and bring more value to both our caregivers and our clients.
Alex Fees: Do you like your applying which you’ve learned from Michael Gerber?
Dana Jessup: Absolutely. I can always learn more but definitely.
Alex Fees: Dana Jessup about Friends for Life or our website or something where people can go for more information.
Dana Jessup: Yes www.friendsforlifeink.com
Alex Fees: So that’s FreindsForLifeInk.com.
Dana Jessup: Yes.
Alex Fees: Dana thank you very much.
Dana Jessup: Thank you.
Alex Fees: She is Dana Jessup with Friends for Life. I’m Alex Fees with SBTV.com Small Business is our only Business.
