Alex Fees: I’m Alex Fees on Small Business Television. We are coming to you from the 2008 COSE small business conference. COSE, that’s the Council of Smaller Enterprises here in Cleveland. Eric Winbigler joins me know. Eric, I appreciate you being here.
Eric Winbigler: Hi. Nice, thanks Alex.
Alex Fees: Eric is one of the owners of Advanced Paint Technology, is that right?
Eric Winbigler: You’re right.
Alex Fees: Located in here in Ohio. Eric, what is your company, what do you do?
Eric Winbigler: Well, we coat things widgets of manufacturers make for other industries; medical equipment parts, aerospace, military applications, etc.
Alex Fees: You coat them with paint or whatever finished product does necessary or what?
Eric Winbigler: Generally it’s paint but we do something with powder coating and ceramic finishes, top line, etc. Yes.
Alex Fees: How big is your company that you call own, right?
Eric Winbigler: Yeah that’s 22 years, we’ve been in business and we’ve got a dozen employees. I’ve own it for the last four years from the original owner from the retired and we’ve been growing over 30% a year since we took over.
Alex Fees: So, are your clients are they corporations or they are the small businesses? What?
Eric Winbigler: It’s actually a mixture which is kind of a nice especially in difficult economic times, we do have some arch corporations who are our customers, small customer, companies that are smaller than us, part of employment side and what we would consider retail people, you and I as personal individual home owners that might come to us with special projects.
Alex Fees: Well Eric, I don’t know anything about the paint industry or the finish industry. Tell me about this. What’s new?
Eric Winbigler: Well, there has been a lot of movement towards environmental issues about the reducing pollution that’s emitted in the air, the environmental recycling stream of waste products, generate, etc. and we’ve been very active in those areas using things that are very environmentally friendly and much more so than over the last 15, 20 years.
Alex Fees: I’m very certain, I hear a lot about that these days. Eric, what about your involvement with COSE, is this new for you or?
Eric Winbigler: We’ve actually been to COSE members and shortly we took over in 2004. We originally join in order to take advantage of being a part of the workers comp group and through that we’ve also gone involved with the utility purchase opportunities, pay roll services.
Alex Fees: Wow!
Eric Winbigler: Have benefit. Our membership cost gets paid for 10 times over annually. It’s a no brainer for us to not be involved in the program.
Alex Fees: So you’ve really utilized a lot of the benefits available to you then.
Eric Winbigler: Absolutely then we come to events like this for networking and support for ways to me that the business owners wrap the area.
Alex Fees: What’s your impression that 2008’s small business here on Cleveland?
Eric Winbigler: Bigger than last year, better than last year.
Alex Fees: And that’s good.
Eric Winbigler: And I enjoy this morning speaker Michael Symon from the Food Network.
Alex Fees: Oh yeah, absolutely.
Eric Winbigler: He was great to hear the speech.
Alex Fees: So where is your restaurant going to be located?
Eric Winbigler: Actually worked in restaurant industry, it’s not for me, my hats off to what he does.
Alex Fees: Oh yeah.
Eric Winbigler: It’s amazing story and again, I have no desire to do that again. Once was enough.
Alex Fees: They also talked, we also heard from John Moore who was the marketing guru between Starbucks and let’s see Whole Foods I believe, talked about passion and focus. Does that make sense in your industry or are you able to kind of apply that to what you do?
Eric Winbigler: You have to. As a small business owner, you’re not doing it for a love of what you’re doing, you’re not going to be successful at it. The 70/80 hour work weeks, do whatever it takes attitude. Start at the top, goes all the way to the bottom, so if you don’t have that, it’s really difficult, there would be I believe to be successful in long term as a small business owner.
Alex Fees: Eric, where can people get more information about Advanced Paint Technology?
Eric Winbigler: Well, you can reach us on the telephone at good old fashion 216-676-8770
Alex Fees: Right.
Eric Winbigler: We also have a website, it’s www.advancedpainttech.com, all one word.

Alex Fees: Okay, all right. And that’s Eric Winbigler. Eric, I appreciate you being here.
