Susan Wilson Solovic: Artist Chris Krupinski spent the early part of her career creating fine art. Something she’s had a passion and talent for since she was a child.
Chris Krupinski: Painting is my passion. It always has been. I’ve just been an artist from when I was really young, when I was nine years old. My sister and I used to have to take turns doing the dishes and we didn’t have a dishwasher and one day my mom said, “Chris it’s your turn to do the dishes. So I got a watercolor path and I painted the dirty dishes and she didn’t see a lot of humor in that.
Susan Wilson Solovic: But the death of her husband forced her to refocus her attention from creating art to making money. Luckily for Chris, she was able to parlay her talents in to a money making venture. She started a graphic arts design company.
Chris Krupinski: I had been a graphic designer years ago. People work computers back when it actually had to use t-squares and do lie x by hand. So now, that were graphic design have come to, I didn’t know computer program so I went back to school, burst up on my skills and started my own business.
Susan Wilson Solovic: Through her company’s detailed art and design studio, Chris mostly produces print media. She creates a ranger product which includes newsletters, brochures, postcards, booklets and signage for an extensive list of clients. She loves having her office in her home and being able to make her own hours.
Chris Krupinski: Because I do graphic design for multiple clients, my job never gets boring because there’s such a wide range of projects that I do that everyone is something new creatively and if I worked somewhere in just do the same thing all the time, I wouldn’t have that luxury.
Susan Wilson Solovic: Krupinski believe it’s not just her creativity that sets her apart from other businesses in this highly competitive industry, but her relationships with her clients.
Chris Krupinski: I think it’s what you offer to them, how well your timing is. I mean whether you can produce on schedule or whatever. So I think that you have to go a step beyond the creativity the.
Susan Wilson Solovic: Much of her marketing is through word of mouth. However, when she first started her business, it was contact she had made from doing previous volunteer work that helped her get a jumpstart. And even though business has been good enough to hire help, Chris likes doing the work herself and she still has time to devote to her first passion…
Chris Krupinski: You know even now, I can work at my graphic design business all day and I do enjoy that. But at night, I’ll sit and I paint and it’s as if all of the stress of the day just flows out of my brush on to my paper.
Susan Wilson Solovic: For SBTV, I’m Susan Wilson Solovic Reporting.
