Alex Fees: I am Alex Fees on Small Business Television. We are coming to you from the 2008 COSE Small Business Conference in Cleveland, Ohio. COSE that’s the Council of Smaller Enterprises and joining me here now is Allen Crowley. Allen I appreciate you be in here.
Allen Crowley: Thanks for having me.
Alex Fees: Allen is a COSE board member and his company is the Crowley Group. Let’s talk about that first. What is the Crowley Group?
Allen Crowley: We’re a builders and construction managers for commercial properties.
Alex Fees: Really. Here on this section Northeast Ohio?
Allen Crowley: We actually regional, we have projects from Kentucky to scrap.
Alex Fees: Okay what is your area of specialty?
Allen Crowley: Retail, industrial, grocery stores, retail facilities.
Alex Fees: Thus the relationship of an organization like COSE, tell me about that, how do that come to be?
Allen Crowley: A friend of mine invited me to one of the meetings and it’s snowballed from there.
Alex Fees: And how long ago was that?
Allen Crowley: Five years.
Alex Fees: Really? So, you’ve been a part of a COSE then for the five years or so?
Allen Crowley: We’ve been part of COSE for five years and been on the board for three.
Alex Fees: Oh yeah! So, what happen Allen in that first two years that prompted you to become not just a member but a board member?
Allen Crowley: I took the strategic planning course which is a twelve week intensive review of your company from marketing, sales, business development, strategic planning. So, it really got me involved of the COSE.
Alex Fees: What do you see being the focus of COSE these days? In this current economic environment that where in, what do you have to focus upon for this organization to stay viable?
Allen Crowley: And what COSE does is it promotes businesses in Northeast, Ohio. Small business, 40% of our members are one person type people and what we’ve done is we created the arch network for the artist type of creative companies and I home business base network for those people that work at their house. So, we’ve been you know what’s the latest trend and how can we develop more membership for them as will as support that member.
Alex Fees: What do you hope comes out of this? We are in pretty much day one of the conference here in Cleveland this week. What you do hope to leave with two or three days from now?
Allen Crowley: Well I hope what we do is we leave with a lot of new COSE new members and personally I hope I come with three good business leads.
Alex Fees: I’m sorry, personally what? Three business leads.
Allen Crowley:” Three new business leads.
Alex Fees: All right we’re halfway through day one here, if you got one or two that is down?
Allen Crowley: I have a one.
Alex Fees: Did you see Michael Simon’s key note presentation this morning.
Allen Crowley: I did.
Alex Fees: Michael Simon the Food Network Iron Chef 2007. Allen where is your restaurant going to be?
Allen Crowley: I hope to build his restaurant in here.
Alex Fees: They’re you go. Good idea.
Allen Crowley: Absolutely.
Alex Fees: Good idea, alright. I was having joking there but you’ve got it in on that. You can provide the facility for him.
Allen Crowley: Right!
