So Chris, what is Dog Gone Smart? This is what a pillow, a bed, what?
Chris Onthank: Dog Gone Smart is pet products that are made from a product called NanoSphere®. NanoSphere is something that’s engineered at a nano level and basically it’s a solution for the pet owner. These dog beds stayed clean naturally and when you wash them, they come out looking brand new. What basically, what happens, what makes a dog bed smell? Is the oil and the dog’s coat, it’s on the fabric and then back to where you attach it.
Alex Fees: Because as your sign back there it say, ‘our beds love dirty dog’ right?
Chris Onthank: They do and that’s because they stay clean. Things don’t, these dog beds don’t want to get dirty.
Alex Fees: So they are not going to absorb what my dog brings in from outside?
Chris Onthank: After a long time but when you wash them, it’s all going to come out. So you know like I said, it’s the oil in the dog’s coat that gets on the fabric and then bacteria attacks it and this has some of the highest oil repellency on any fabric.
Alex Fees: Okay and what is that fabric? What is it made out of?
Chris Onthank: It could be any fabric. It’s actually the treatment. It’s a nano treatment. It’s made by Schoeller Technologies out of Switzerland. They are one of the leading fabric finishing companies in the world. You’ve got companies for all different types of house wares and clothing companies use this technology.
Alex Fees: Well Chris, I saw something in your publications, there I saw the phrase ‘bacteriostatic.’
Chris Onthank: Yes.
Alex Fees: What that does mean?
Chris Onthank: Bacteriostatic, it’s something in the fabric that inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungus, the spread of bacteria so that it helps with odor control.
Alex Fees: You got a demonstration for me here.
Chris Onthank: Sure, I’m just pouring water. I could pour ketchup, I could honey or dirt. It really doesn’t matter but basically things don’t want to stick to this bed so I hope you don’t get all you wet here but as we see, look at this and it’s dry.
Alex Fees: Well, it is dry.
Chris Onthank: And we can also do it on any fabric. This is Sherpa. This would normally act like a sponge but if I pour it into this fabric here and I make a little pocket, you will see that it just holds and it doesn’t absorb in. You see that? If that was regular Sherpa that will fake lumps here it would be soaking into the fabric.
Alex Fees: And again Chris, this is not because of the material, it’s because of treatment.
Chris Onthank: It’s because of the treatment; a nanosphere treatment. We have cat beds, we have jackets. We have a full line of pet throws. We also keep carry equine as well so we’re in the horse business.
Alex Fees: And you are saying that like these products would not absorb that water, they also will not absorb an animal’s oils.
Chris Onthank: Oils, dirt, muddy grime. So it basically, things don’t want to stick to them so it stays clean naturally.
