Alex Fees: I’m Alex Fees on Small Business Television. We are coming to you from Cleveland, Ohio with the 2008 COSE Small Business Conference. COSE that’s the Council of Smaller Enterprises and joining me here now is Jack Thomason. Jack I appreciate you being here.
Jack Thomason: Hi! Nice to meet you.
Alex Fees: Jack is an Engineer who co-owns is that right three different companies?
Jack Thomason: Right.
Alex Fees: In the general industry?
Jack Thomason: Yes.
Alex Fees: Let’s lists those Jack. These are names and websites, correct?
Jack Thomason: Correct.
Alex Fees: Clevelandlasertherapy.com, that’s number one, greatinternetdental.com.
Jack Thomason: Greatinternetdentalmarketing.com.
Alex Fees: Sorry, GreatInternetDentalMarketing.com and InSodenTally.com. Help me with the third one.
Jack Thomason: InSodenTally.com, basically with spot—
Alex Fees: Spell it.
Jack Thomason: I-N-S-O-D-E-N-T-A-L-L-Y.
Alex Fees: Alright, what are those? What do you do?
Jack Thomason: Well, I basically developed a group of businesses all around the dental profession. And those businesses basically feed one another in that area. But as the far as reaching is insodentally and great internet dental marketing because most dentists, the biggest challenge for most dentists is to get new patients. And most dentists are not necessarily geared towards marketing.
Alex Fees: Sure because they spend a time in dental school.
Jack Thomason: You’re right. Well they spend all their time in another patients mouth.
Alex Fees: Absolutely.
Jack Thomason: And so they spend very a little time trying to grow there business. So, it’s a big frustration for them. So, basically, I developed a group of companies that help the dentists succeed.
Alex Fees: And you are, you are an Engineering background, as I right?
Jack Thomason: Yeah! I’m an Engineer Mechanical and I have an MBA.
Alex Fees: And you work with periodotist obviously.
Jack Thomason: I worked with two periodotist correct.
Alex Fees: So, how do you help them in marketing?
Jack Thomason: Well, basically the dentists today basically spends the majority of their time as I said working on the patient. They invest heavily in technology in their office. But to gain patients, to bring more patients into a practice, the technology investment really needs to be made from the office to the patient. So, I’m utilizing all of the latest technologies like blogging, like hi-definition television and so forth to stay in contact with the patients, build new patients and basically educate patients.
Alex Fees: Wow, will hi-definition TV, blogging I mean, that sounds like that’s the future certainly not just in dentistry but in almost every industry is it not?
Jack Thomason: Yes, I mean, in terms of how it’s going. If you go to a café and you see the young people today. They’re all sitting with their computers or their iPods. Well, if you are dentists, the old traditional way marketing is probably go bye, bye because that next generation of clientele are not going to go to the yellow pages to look for a dentist.
Alex Fees: Yeah! They are not tuned into that market.
Jack Thomason: No, they’re going to look on their iPod while they’re walking along the beach in California and they’re going to think I need to have this particular surgery. They’re going to look in there iPhone and they’re going to go, Oh, I need to have this particular surgery, I’m in Los Angeles. Where can I have this done?”
Alex Fees: A kind of paradigm shift, is it not? A completely different way of thinking as far as the consumers of marketing.
Jack Thomason: Absolutely, my formal education is in Marketing and I graduated in 1990 from a local school here Case Western. But, I would say 90% of what I learned you can pretty much throw out the window because the way that the marketing is heading today is all through social networks. You actually attract the costumer versus how I used to go or do it by knocking on doors and trying to target costumer.
Alex Fees: Right.
Jack Thomason: So, it’s really changing and you know I’m 49 so it’s takes a good bit to come on board. One of the promise we have here and living in Cleveland is the West Coast is doing a lot of this already. So, in places like Cleveland it’s a little bit more difficult. So, you’ve really need to bring the information and that’s what I’m so excited about this SBTV because it can bring a global perspective right here to people that normally wouldn’t have that opportunity.
Alex Fees: Probably a little slower of option in some parts of the mid West?
Jack Thomason: Well yeah, I mean, we’re still trying to come out of that traditional manufacturing mentality.
Alex Fees: Yeah.
Jack Thomason: And we lost I think 280,000 manufacturing jobs here. So, it’s a slow transition.
Alex Fees: Jack, tell me about your participation in COSE? Is this new?
Jack Thomason: No it’s not, I actually been with COSE since 1985 when I was working at a large Fortune 500 company but I was associated with COSE, but I only used COSE in the health insurance area. Now, with all the resources that they’re offering i.e. yourself, this is a fantastic advantage you know for small business people like myself to be able to be on the global market place.
Alex Fees: So, in light of that is what you’re hoping to leave a COSE conference with, is it changing as opposed to when you first got involved?
Jack Thomason: Well, absolutely. I mean, I’m sitting here talking to you and within a matter of minutes, I can be broadcast to the world. Five to 10 minutes however it takes the load this up on a website, in five to 10 minutes people could be hearing my voice in China.
Alex Fees: Yeah, absolutely.
Jack Thomason: So, absolutely it changed. This digital technology high definition technology is going to change the way we go to market.
Alex Fees: Okay, alright. Jack Thomason. Thank you Jack!
Jack Thomason: Thank You!
Alex Fees: Now you got to help me here Jack is with Cleveland Laser Therapy which is also a website.com, greatinternetdentalmarketing.com and insodentally.com, right?
Jack Thomason: Yes, that’s correct.
Alex Fees: Is there some place people can go to get information about your companies?
Jack Thomason: My name website but that’s basically the only other place.
Alex Fees: Okay, good deal. Well let’s give and all you have it here.
Jack Thomason: That just www.jackwthomason.com.
Alex Fees: Alright, good deal. Again, he is Jack Thomason, I’m Alex Fees. You’re watching Small Business Television, we’re coming to you from COSE 2008, the Council on Smaller Enterprises. I dare to say, small only in name.
