Ivy Hartman: Hello, there I'm Ivy Hartman with sbtv.com and joining me Linda Coughlin of Paralelles. Linda talks to us about Paralelles. It is a premier media outlet for women, isn’t that right?
Linda Coughlin: It is Ivy. I'm so glad to be here and thank you for taking the time with me today.
Ivy Hartman: Absolutely.
Linda Coughlin: Paralelles is a media platform for women in businesses over the web, radio network powered by sbtv and our new print magazine, which I've just given one to Ivy, our print magazine. We promote women on businesses all day every day and that’s my passion. Our new program is keep the cash in the circle; it’s a program that challenges a million women to spend $20.00 a week with another women on business to create a billion dollars in revenue.
Ivy Hartman: How are we going to track that? I know that I'm trying to contribute locally and then consciously I will make that effort to make a women business known business. Make sure I go in there and say “are you a woman on business?’ Or is there a place we can go to find those women on businesses, A, and B, how are we going to make sure that we can reach that billion dollar mark?
Linda Coughlin: Thanks for those great questions. Ivy you are great.
Ivy Hartman: Yeah I'm firing at you. Are you ready?
Linda Coughlin: I'm ready. Two ways, one, Paralelles can be a reference point for you to spend the $20.00 a week. We have over 300 women as members. So as a reference point, you can use Paralelles or you and spend within your local community, women that you know own their businesses and ask them also to join the site.
And there is a tracking method. We will be having a database for you to sign in your purchase every week or once a month or once a quarter and in September of 2009 we will have a gathering in New York City to celebrate the woman with the most spend with other woman businesses. The woman whose business has increased the most and it will be a great day and we’ll be celebrating a billion dollars.
Ivy Hartman: I love the idea of being rewarded or receiving an award just for shopping.
Linda Coughlin: There you go keep the cash in the circle.
Ivy Hartman: Great program keep the cash on the circle. Talk about Paralelles and how we can access different publication as well as your online.
Linda Coughlin: Sure absolutely. You can go to paralelles.com and it’s spelled differently P-A-R-A-L-E-L-L-E-S.com.
Ivy Hartman: Why is that, where does the name come from and why did you choose it?
Linda Coughlin: I was on an airplane reading a magazine article where Oprah was interviewing Meg Ryan. Meg Ryan was talking about her experience in Pakistan and how the women on the street there were selling their wares, tending their children, cooking their dinner and talking about how women really do just the parallel lives all over the globe. And I thought it was a fabulous name. The actual correct spelling was taken and I thought all day about how it was going to incorporate parallels and so I change the name.
Ivy Hartman: And to be honest with you I think and I could be wrong E-L-L-E-S or E-L-L-E means girl or ‘eyah’ in Spanish or Elle in other languages.
Linda Coughlin: It’s the name pronoun for she.
Ivy Hartman: Exactly, so it does parallel well.
Linda Coughlin: Absolutely, absolutely so that’s how it came about that it was Paralelles.
Ivy Hartman: Wonderful. We love you. We wish you best of luck with the Keep the Cash in the Circle.
Linda Coughlin: So take the challenge, go online, spend that $20.00 a week and in one year come to New York City and celebrate with us.
Ivy Hartman: I'm excited about it and paralelles.com, P-A-R-A-L-E-L-L-E-S.com. Thanks again Linda for being here.
Linda Coughlin: Thank Ivy.
Ivy Hartman: And you can actually look for content from sbtv on the website as well.
