Alex Fees: I’m Alex Fees on sbtv.com. We are coming to you from Denver Colorado from the site of the Michael Gerber conference titled, Exploring the E-Myth. And joining me here now is Kris Wittenberg. Kris good to meet you.
Kris Wittenberg: Nice to meet you Alex.
Alex Fees: I appreciate you being here. Kris is the owner of a company called Saynomore Promotions. And Kris this is a little complicated. It’s Saynomore all together one word with an exclamation point right?
Kris Wittenberg: That’s correct.
Alex Fees: There’s a little bit of branding going on there.
Kris Wittenberg: That’s right. We’re big on branding. You got to get this right.
Alex Fees: What is Saynomore Promotions? How did it come about?
Kris Wittenberg: You know what Saynomore Promotions we help our clients say thank you to those who matter so that these people really know that they matter and we do that through branded merchandise or for gifts putting company logos on products that are very unique and different.
Alex Fees: Kris also has a unique distinction that is she is a recipient of Make Mine A Million Dollar Business Award, tell me about that. How did it come about? When did it happen? How has it helped you?
Kris Wittenberg: We were awarded last June 2006 in San Francisco during the National the NAWBO conference and basically the Make Mine A Million Dollar Business program was founded by Count Me In for Women’s Economic Independence and it’s a program helping to reach one million female entrepreneurs with million dollars in revenue or more by the year 2010. And last year hit a million dollars in revenue. We were up 60% from the year before and so we were one of the eight that hit it in 2006. It was pretty exciting.
Alex Fees: So how long have you been out there? Tell me about the development of your company.
Kris Wittenberg: I started the company in San Francisco in 1999, actually really sort of fell into it. I was in promotions but a whole different realm of promotions and did a lot of overseas manufacturing think Happy Meal choice in kids marketing and I had a client who needed some golf towels for an event and I had no experience with that but had a friend in the business who I knew put logos on products. And so I called her and she helped me turn the order around and it was really interesting that I sort of fell into it and that was a little over eight and a half years ago.
Alex Fees: What has been your experience or your exposure to Michael Gerber and his philosophies?
Kris Wittenberg: I was actually exposed to the E-Myth—exposed to Michael Gerber through Make Mine A Million Dollar Business Program because we all talked to one another about who we listen to and what things have helped us and so everyone was talking about E-Myth and how exciting it was and how it has transformed a lot of businesses. So I got the book on tape and when I go walking and running in the morning I listen to books on tape on my iPod because that’s sort of my “clear-my-head-time”. So I listen to it and then he happen to be coming to the Veil Valley as a speaker and so my husband and I went to hear him speak and we’re just enthralled and signed up for this whole day conference here in Denver.
Alex Fees: Now Kris for people who may be unfamiliar with Michael Gerber, the E-Myth is help me here—the E-Myth is entrepreneurs start businesses right? I mean he makes the claim that you don’t have to be a entrepreneur, you don’t have to be an expert of something in order to start in that line of work.
Kris Wittenberg: Correct. I think his philosophy is that technicians start business most frequently and then they can become entrepreneurs and work on their businesses instead of in their business, which is a concept that we as entrepreneurs in general really need to grasp and take over.
Alex Fees: As you can hear behind us that is Susan Wilson Solovic. She is the CEO of sbtv.com. Kris I would like to give you a chance to do you have a website or something?
Kris Wittenberg: Sure do. It’s www.saynomorepromotions.com.
Alex Fees: Saynomorepromotions.com. Kris Wittenberg, thank you very much.
Kris Wittenberg: Thank you so much Alex, have a great day.
Alex Fees: This is Kris, I’m Alex Fees. You’re watching sbtv.com where small business is our only business.
