Alex Fees: I am Alex Fees on Small Business Television. We are coming to you from SEMA 2008 that Specialty Equipment Market Association here in Las Vegas and joining me now is Dan Scheid. Dan, good to meet you sir.
Dan Scheid: Yes, nice to meet you Alex.
Alex Fees: Appreciate you have been here. Dan's company is Scheid Diesel Motor Sports. We are in the presence in the company of a record breaker, correct.
Dan Scheid: Yes sir.
Alex Fees: You are in the Drag Racing business.
Dan Scheid: Yes.
Alex Fees: And the Diesel Motor Sports business.
Dan Scheid: Yes.
Alex fees: Probably is the larger organization, if you would. Tell me about this photograph right here Dan.
Dan Scheid: Okay! This is our 300 inch spitzer chassis dragster and we've got a 59 Cummins in it. And it's a twin turbo water injected, we've got a Lenco Transmission.
Alex Fees: And what does that say there at the top of the photograph? 200 miles --
Dan Scheid: It's 200 miles/hour. So yes just recently we've ran 202 in a quarter mile and back to dip with a 203.
Alex Fees: Where did that happen?
Dan Scheid: That happened at Muncie Dragway and Muncie Indiana.
Alex Fees: Okay and how recently?
Dan Scheid: Four weeks ago.
Alex Fees: Really? Well, congratulations because that's a new record, right?
Dan Scheid: Yes, sure it is.
Alex Fees: And you should know because you held the old record as well.
Dan Scheid: Yes, yes.
Alex Fees: So what does this do to your product and to Scheid Diesel Motor Sports?
Dan Scheid: Well what we were wanting to do, we are into business of building high performance engines.
Alex Fees: I will say it.
Dan Scheid: And what we are wanting to do is we are wanting to market that engine and we want to develop reliability, and dependability that customers can count on so that we can sell them engines to perform as well as that one goes.
Alex Fees: Right. So you are obviously -- you are targeting high performance race teams in such ride, Drag Racing teams. Is this a small business?
Dan Scheid: It is a small business.
Alex Fees: It is right now.
Dan Scheid: Yes. And we are looking forward to grow. We have three locations and we've got a engine Dyno, a 4000 hp engine Dyno, so we do a lot Dyno work on multi staged diesel engines.
Alex Fees: Okay. And where your guys out of?
Dan Scheid: We are out of Terre Haute, Indiana.
Alex Fees: Terre Haute, Indiana. Alright. What's going to happen now? If this has happened four weeks ago, I mean what will a record like this do for your calling part if you will.
Dan Scheid: Well, our hope is that it increases our business and that it increases the interest of Diesel Motor Sports and that we get more people involved in drag racing and diesel lineups and Diesel Hot Rod Association, NADM and our National Auto Road Diesel Association as well. So if we can get more people involved in these organizations and grow the sport.
Alex Fees: Right. And Dan you told me earlier that what you had in mind was to break this record, right?
Dan Scheid: Yes.
Alex Fees: Now two records ago, it was a 160 something.
Dan Scheid: Yes.
Alex Fees: Your team broke that record, set it to 1--
Dan Scheid: 183.
Alex Fees: 183.
Dan Scheid: Yeah.
Alex Fees: Now it's 202, then 203.
Dan Scheid: Yeah.
Alex Fees: I mean you are going by leaps and bounds here.
Dan Scheid: Yeah.
Alex Fees: Where is this going to end?
Dan Scheid: We see no end. So the challenge is set and so we keep expanding and we keep growing and the mark keeps getting higher.
Alex Fees: I don't want you to give out any industry secrets here, but what sets you apart? Why are able to keep doing this?
Dan Scheid: Well mainly, it's my crew as much as anything else. I've got two young men who are definitely dedicated to it, and our company employees are definitely dedicated to it and helping us grow the sport and they have put the time and effort into it to let us be able to come out and run that dragster.
Alex Fees: Alright. Dan, tell us about Scheid Diesel Motor Sports Association with SEMA.
Dan Scheid: We come out here to display our new record.
Alex Fees: Yeah. Have you been here before, to this event before?
Dan Scheid: We had displayed a car with our sponsor, Silverline Ansa Automotive, Silverline four years ago.
Alex Fees: Okay.
Dan Scheid: And we are back with them again. We don't have the car here this time but we are back with Silverline Ansa Automotive this year as well.
Alex Fees: Don't have the car but you got the record.
Dan Scheid: Yeah and we have got video of the car running.
Alex Fees: I am guessing when people in this industry find out about the record that creates a little more - they get serious about it then.
Dan Scheid: Yeah. Yeah, we want to create more enthusiasm about it, and we want our record broken. That'll give us something to shoot for it once again.
