Ivy: Where here in Phoenix, Arizona for NAWBOs 2008 Women’s Business Conference, and joining me is Stephanie Alexander, who is the CEO of WomanSavers.com, very interesting business you have, Stephanie. You’re a none-profit organization, tell us more about WomanSavers.com.
Stephanie: WomanSavers is a date screening service for women and it is a free service and it is home to the world’s largest data base rating men. It is an international service that’s a hundred percent free and a woman can go in there and she can screen her dates.
Ivy: Now, where did you get the idea for this concept, for this business?
Stephanie: I am an abused survivor and I’ve experience all forms of abuse and in 2002 I felt, wouldn’t it be great if women could network together to share their stories to bring the good guys to the top and bad to the bottom. So I created WomanSavers and now it’s in the top 1 percent most popular websites in the world and averages over 1.5 million hits a month.
Ivy: So let’s talk, let’s get specific, talk about what some of these women are doing. Like you can go on and you post it, let’s say you had an unfavorable experience with a man, or whatever, then you can post his name and photo and kinda give the truth, but also synopsis of your opinion.
Stephanie: Correct. It works like this, there’s very strong terms of agreement that you need to agree to, and one of those is that you’re telling the truth. Because the truth is 100 percent defense to libel. And like you said, you can say something like, I think John is a jerk, or John was a jerk to me, and that falls under freedom of speech. And there’s nothing anybody can do to stop you from telling your story. If you go on there and you lie, you maybe sued for libel, so the author is responsible for their post anywhere in the internet, it doesn’t matter whether you’re in a message board, on a blog, in a database, you are responsible for your, what you write.
Ivy: But that was interesting, researching that and trying to implement some of that when you were starting WomanSavers.
Stephanie: Multiple attorneys were consulted for this and including international attorneys.
Ivy: Right.
Stephanie: And the laws are still evolving, all the time about this. So we are constantly tweaking it and moving it around.
Ivy: What, do you help to accomplish, you’re a NAWBO member, but also you’re an exhibitor here at the 2008 woman’s business conference, talk about what your goals are by attending this year’s conference.
Stephanie: Well I think NAWBO is a great place to exhibit, to network with women. These are women in strong business situations and they’re gonna get the word out. They walk by my booth, I get to introduce myself, explain what I’m doing, spread the word.
Ivy: And all of us are either a mother, a sister, a daughter, so we all have woman, a friend, women in our lives, and as soon as I walk by your booth, I thought, I know at least three women, my sisters who I wanna tell about that.
Stephanie: Every woman says that. Every woman either has experienced abuse herself or infidelity or knows somebody who is currently experiencing it. So the part about WomanSavers that is fabulous, besides just the date screening is we offer free medical advice from a physician, free psychotherapy advice from a psychotherapist who specializes in narcissism and sociopath, because I notice a lot of women in abusive situations, they don’t have funds for a psychiatrist, they don’t feel comfortable telling their problems to their family and friends coz they’re embarrassed. So they can go to WomanSavers, which is, by the way woman, singular, plural savers, woman savers, and shed light on to their situations. They can get help for free.
Ivy: Perfect. So that website again is Woman, W-O-M-A-N, savers, S-A-V-E-R-S, dot com. You can log on to the website and post something there or review what other people have posted and try to save yourself from some of that hurt and heartache that you deserve upon.
Stephanie: Yes, save yourself and save others.
Ivy: Thank you Stephanie for being here, keep it log on to SBTV.com, as we continue our coverage here at the NAWBO conference in Phoenix, Arizona
