Alex: I’m Alex Fees on sbtv.com. coming to you from near Denver, Colorado side of a business conference sponsored by the small business guru Michael Gerber. And the title of this conference on the part of Mr. Gerbur is exploring the eMyth. And one of people here today with us who is exploring the eMyth is Shiela Steward. She has a small business entrepreneur is that fair?
Sheila: That’s correct.
Alex: And your company is called power marketing.
Sheila: Yes.
Alex: Where Centennial Colorado?
Sheila: Basically a new suburb above Denver. So out in the techcenter.
Alex: Empower Marketing. What kind of marketing are we talking about?
Sheila: Marketing for small business owners.
Alex: Specifically.
Sheila: I've written a series of 24 books and I have taken Michael Gerburs’ work to heart. And I have developed a system around marketing, packaging and a step by step approach to make marketing not intimidating, very easy and understandable for small business owners in particular.
Alex: Well Shiela let’s give you a shameless plug here right of the bat. 24 books?
Sheila: Yes, very easy booklets I say because they are intimidating for business owners. They’re designed to be able to be read and process over a cup of coffee or once you get to a point and make here and there.
Alex: So it’s user friendly?
Sheila: Very user friendly.
Alex: Where people find these books the pamphlets?
Sheila: EmpowermarketingUSA.com
Alex: Okay that’s your website empowermarketingusa.com, tell me about your background I’m guessing you came from marketing and corporate America.
Sheila: I did corporate America I jumped off the cliff started my own advertising agency in the late 90’s. And the phrase be careful what you wish form when you get it you might nor like it, I got it I didn’t like it. So in my business and found that I was doing more of working in the business not as much on the business and the bigger that I build it the more people I have the more of the manage liaison and the lesson of my passion about. And that’s marketing and so I can relate to a lot of what Michael is talking about with the dreaming room.
I wish I would’ve known about this 2 years ago when I hi my COD.
Alex: How is it what?
Sheila: My COD he calls is that prop out date.
Alex: Sorry I miss that one. So what about is it there a market for empower marketing outside of the Colorado area?
Sheila: Yes, there is it’s nation wide and then we’re going global. Having the business plans over the next 4 years so. And our mission really is to decrease the failure rate of small business owners right now it’s 85% fail from the 1st 5 years and I’m on a mission to decrease that to 80% and to 75%. There’s a lot of really do primarily marketing and luck there out.
Alex: Well prior to this conference in Colorado at least a couple of days. Were you familiar with Michael Gruber?
Sheila: Yes, very much so. And went through read it amazingly enough when I had my advertising agency I just stood and listen. And I didn’t wake up to what was in to the book until the end of 2004.
Alex: So you mean you got of corporate America the ones started advertising is that the issue? I mean you needed to go marketing instead of advertising.
Sheila: No, it was really my issue my background being in the advertising agency side we did both advertising and marketing. So I look at that the corporation that I was in until I can do it better and then improve fashion and have a nice and build my own agency until I can do it.
But I’m really not helping, was not helping small business owners because they could not afford our service.
Alex: Can they now?
Sheila: They can now, yes that’s going to go.
Alex: Shiela Steward thank you very much.
Sheila: Thank you very much.
Alex: That’s Shiela Steward with empower marketing. I’m Alex Fees with sbtv.com small business is our only business.,
