Small Business Stories - The Alternative Board
Alex Fees: I’m Alex Fees on SBTV.com and we are coming to you from Sunny, Orlando Florida here at the IFA Conference away, that’s International Franchise Association. 48th Annual and joining me here now is Jason Zickerman he is the President and COO of The Alternative Board. TAB.
Jason Zickerman: The Alternative Board, right.
Alex Fees: Jason you’ll talk about a soft market right now is that right. Your company has done some research on behalf of IFA?
Jason Zickerman: Well yes, well on behalf of small and midsize business in itself but small and midsize business is franchising. So, when we did a lot of research on the small midsize business market, although this is a very soft market out there, the small medium size business are having much more optimism in this economy than anyone is talking about.
Then their dependents are or the politicians are and we believe that if you focus on more on what the business owners are saying, they’ll be going to be much more successful. Whether in this economy than not because you’re going to put them into a fear that they don’t necessarily have to have. And in franchising is fabulous because it’s much more support for the franchise businesses than they are. For none franchise businesses as we don’t promise the franchise and so franchisees in a better economy often do better than none franchisees.
Alex Fees: Jason why would small and medium size firms have reason for optimism in the current market.
Jason Zickerman: Well first of all, it’s not that they need that why they do have more optimism is just that they do and everyone’s from that Wall Street and how bad it is. Well that’s not the ripple flock down to the small medium size business when we surveyed over thousands of business owners, we found out even though there’s going to be what they are talking about the slow down business owners are expecting a more optimistic away. We had 70% that they’re going to make more profitability, 67% increase the capital spending and 50% are going to be hiring.
Alex Fees: Our small and medium size firms sheltered from the current market whatever it maybe.
Jason Zickerman: I think that they ultimately will ripple down. I just believe that there’s a lot of band wagon behavior of what the economy is and everyone’s going to talk about. The all the doom and gloom and if there is for more optimism there. But, in franchising they are going to be more successful than the other businesses because of the support structure that franchise systems and franchise will provide for them.
Alex Fees: Tell me about IFA what role do you see an organization like IFA playing in any market.
Jason Zickerman: Tremendous role. I think the more they support they support they franchising concept the more that they’re giving people more structure, more guidance, more process to be a successful business person, the better. So franchising as a whole is fabulous. The IFA is doing an incredible job helping promote that model and that industry and as you might have heard, I mean where are huge employee, where the largest and franchising is the largest employing market industry in the whole US. So I think that at the end of the day to create better economy, you have to create jobs and franchising does that.
Alex Fees: Where do you see that going in the future?
Jason Zickerman: Well I think it’s going to still continue the trend. I think that process and systems in an organization and support is aware of business model that will not go away. The more you could do that and give up people, opportunity to grow and hire and control the destiny. I think it’s just going to continue in short and the more so.
Alex Fees: And Jason where can people get more information about the topic you’re discussing.
