Amy Chase: Hi and welcome to sbtv.com’s coverage of the 2007 SBA Awards here in Saint Louis. Right now, I'm talking to Laura and Lauren Herring and you are officers with the Impacts Group of Family Owned Business and your one of the Family Owned business of the year. Congratulations!
Lauren Herring: Thank You.
Laura Herring: Thank You.
Amy Chase: Lauren, first tell me a little bit about the Impacts group on what you do.
Lauren Herring: Well, impacts group is a core management company where we are transition experts reach a corporate transition. We specialize in corporate relocation as well as out placement which is when companies lay people off, we help them find new jobs and we also are specializing in the new area of new development which is retirement coaching so as the work force is changing with Baby Bloomers accessing the work force are looking for second careers for supporting both the Baby Bloomers as well as the corporation through that kind of a transition. So we have coaches that work one on one with individuals as well as with the corporation through this kind of transitions and we do this through also a lot of technology. We have a unique, a model that we call I Solutions which is bridging the technology as well as the personal one on one coaching that we offer.
Amy Chase: Oh great! You’ve been in a business you shall made about 20 years. Tell me what so the changes have been and what’s on the challenges have been that you’ve faced over that time.
Lauren Herring: Well, when we started their work any computers and so they’re wealth in a laptop so you were doing everything by hand. Now, it’s been wonderful we have opened up 15 locations around the world and so we would have been able to do that if we hadn’t had the opportunity for technology so that has been wonderful. The challenge of course like in a small business is funding and making sure that we get all the resources that we need to grow and expand. And so staying in tact with your bankers and learning how to promote within the city, but we’re global so we have to go out. We have to find sales people worldwide and colt relations are always the challenge but because we help corporation still with cultural changes, and their global expansions it make it much easier.
Amy Chase: Lauren, let me ask you you’re a second generation in this business. How did you decide that you wanted to get involve with this business instead of maybe going in as different direction?
Lauren Herring: Sure. You know when I was growing up, I never had any intention actually about joining the family business and it was in until after I graduated college and then actually spend some time away from Saint Louis, away from family in the company that I decided to come back. It was actually originally the seven temporary basis and then the more I spent time with your imitations, spent time with the people that I was working with in addition to my family. It just to became clear to me that it was the right decision to make it a long term choice so in the end, I have absolutely no regrets and to the fact that I actually get to work with so many wonderful people both my family as well as the company in general is great for me.
Amy Chase: For me, as both of you eventually like this where you made other small business owners you can talk and hen work with other people. What do you think are the advantages? What do you learn from this kind of events?
Laura Herring: You can always learn from other people’s success and so I sit and talk with them. We sit and chat. We find out all the resources that they’ve used to get to where they are. I share our resources, we network. There’s one other winner here who I've coached along the years and then during the past couple years she has coach does and so what it is, is a real synergy of people’s best giving each other their best so I love it and I love small business.
Amy Chase: Great! But you so much Laura and Lauren Herring, they are winners of the small business family owned business of the year and stay tune here at sbtv. We have much more of this year’s coverage of the 2007 SBA Awards right here on sbtv.com where small business is our only business.
