Alex Fees: I’m Alex Fees on sbtv.com. We are coming to you from Denver site of a Small Business Guru Conference, sponsored by Michael Gerber, he is a small business guru. The title of the Conference is Exploring the E-Myth, and joining me here now is Ev Luceris. Eve is the owner of Travel Made EZ, correct?
Ev Luceris: That’s right.
Alex Fees: Out of Denver?
Ev Luceris: Out of Denver.
Alex Fees: Ev, let me put a couple of Michael Gerber’s clause here from this morning to set the tone here. Gerber says, “Most people start businesses because they know it something.” He claims that is the exact wrong reason to start a business. Also, another clause from Michael Gerber, “No true entrepreneur ever wanted balance in his or her life.”
Ev, what do you think about that? Do you want balance in your life?
Ev Luceris: Sure, I want balance in certain things of my life.
Alex Fees: But not to have the caused your entrepreneurship.
Ev Luceris: Absolutely not.
Alex Fees: Alright, tell me about, show me your book here, Travel Made EZ.
Ev Luceris: Travel Made EZ is a book for travelers to foreign countries. We teach you how to say please and thank you in 29 different languages. And then it’s categorized by people and places and restaurants and food and you point to an icon. You say, “I need a glass of water or where’s the toilet or where’s the phone or the elevator or the museum. It’s a great little guide.
Alex Fees: Let me see here. So you say you point to an icon for instance doctor.
Ev Luceris: Doctor, right?
Alex Fees: How does it work then?
Ev Luceris: So you say, let’s say you’re in France, so you’ve got to be sick and you want to see a doctor. So you go to the front and you find out how to say, please and it’s phonetically how to say, the please.
Alex Fees: Please in French, right?
Ev Luceris: Please in French.
Alex Fees: Okay.
Ev Luceris: And then you point to a doctor or you point the candle or you point to the flashlight. You point to anything that you need and at the end of it you say, “Mercy.”
Alex Fees: Okay, so there is a—
Ev Luceris: You say, “Thank you.”
Alex Fees: So based on the icon system there was an index in here which you can then go to and it will tell you how to say that word in that language.
Ev Luceris: That’s right.
Alex Fees: That’s amazing.
Ev Luceris: There’s nothing like it.
Alex Fees: Yeah, I never heard about this. Your business is first small to business, but also a book.
Ev Luceris: That’s right.
Alex Fees: Denver, Colorado.
Ev Luceris: The book came about, my collogue that I wrote the book with. She was in Prague and she couldn’t find a cup of coffee. And she said, “If I only had a picture.”
Alex Fees: Well that’s probably if you can't find a cup of coffee.
Ev Luceris: No, because in the morning she got a plate. She couldn’t find a cup of coffee, so she said, “If I only had a picture I can get a cup of coffee.”
Alex Fees: Right.
Ev Luceris: So we decided to write this book. We decided to put this little thing together to help you get around in foreign countries, and this is the English version there’ll be a German and a French and a Spanish.
Alex Fees: How many languages you said?
Ev Luceris: 29 in this book.
Alex Fees: 29 languages. That’s amazing. Where can people find the book?
Ev Luceris: You can find it at Barnes Nobles and Borders, Amazon.
Alex Fees: So you’re everywhere of that.
Ev Luceris: Where ever on that.
Alex Fees: Okay, what about the future on Travel Made EZ? What do you next?
Ev Luceris: What do we do next, we travel.
Alex Fees: Yeah.
Ev Luceris: We travel, yeah.
Alex Fees: What about your background. Tell me about that, and how do this come to be?
Ev Luceris: Well, nothing in my background prepared me for this. I have a Culinary degree and I work as a publicist for someone else.
Alex Fees: Well, okay. Publishing then, so just kind of in the industry.
Ev Luceris: How about saying yes I’m kind of been in this Industry.
Alex Fees: Okay, a lot of the reason I say that as Michael Gerber says, “You need to know nothing about what you’re trying to get into.”
Ev Luceris: I pretty much know nothing about it.
Alex Fees: Is that in your experience?
Ev Luceris: Pretty much, and it works. When you know nothing it works the best because you don’t have anything to make the mistakes behind something.
Alex Fees: So we can save notions.
Ev Luceris: Exactly right.
Alex Fees: He also claims that, business and selling can be learned. It is a system.
Ev Luceris: It is a system, and the least you know, the better you’re going to be at it. It’s true.
Alex Fees: What about the 29 languages? I’m guessing you had a contract with people, with the?
Ev Luceris: No, actually what I did is go to the internet and I researched it all.
Alex Fees: Really?
Ev Luceris: That’s all I do.
Alex Fees: So then you didn’t have to pay interpreters or anything?
Ev Luceris: No, you just looked up stuff. You know you just —it takes a lot of time to do that, but we found an illustrator. We learn how to publish it with ourselves. We joined the Independent Publishers Associations of Colorado. And they taught us how to put this little book together.
Alex Fees: Alright, that is Ev Luceris for her book and her company. It’s all Travel Made EZ. Eve, what about this, where can people get more information about you?
Ev Luceris: You can go to TravelMadeEZ.com.
Alex Fees: TravelMadeEZ.com. All right, Eve thank you very much. We appreciate you being here.
Ev Luceris: Yes, it’s great.
Alex Fees: She’s Eve Luceris, I’m Alex Fees on sbtv.com where like in Eve’s case, small business is our only business.
