Matt Deichmann: WIPP’s Diversity Leadership Awards Program is designed to shine a spotlight on people who build effective multi-cultural organizations which value, enhance and respect our differences.
During WIPP’s Diversity Leadership Awards Program at the organization’s 2007 conference, members found themselves witnessing an unscripted moment.
Annette Taddeo: The day of the election I woke up and was on my way to class and my posters all said Annette Taddeo for secretary, but that morning the secretary portion was crossed out and set Annette Taddeo for deportation. To say the least, I lost that election but that day change my life. And it didn’t change my life in a negative way, it really change my life in a positive way.
Matt Deichmann: Award recipient Annette Taddeo is president of LanguageSpeak a translation company in Miami Florida.
Annette Taddeo: It changed me because it made me want to succeed even more and my company got started to help corporations communicate. Communicate with the world; communicate with the globe in languages.
Matt Deichmann: In an interview after award ceremony with SBTV.com, Taddeo discussed her selection as award recipient.
Annette Taddeo: I just trying to always stand out for the diverse community both Hispanic, African-American, Asian-American and actually from a women’s perspective, there’s always—I think women are able to really bring together all diverse communities into one voice.
Matt Deichmann: She also spoke of her involvement with WIPP.
Annette Taddeo: I value the fact that I can be here speaking to my legislators that represent me in Florida, I also value the fact that I can actually give feedback as a business owner…“Wait a minute this is not such a good idea this would affect my bottom line.”
Matt Deichmann: In addition to the diversity awards program, WIPP has several other diversity initiatives including an effort with the diversity network.
