Grace Mathis: This is Grace, your beauty guru and as you can see I have half of my face done for your New Year’s new Smokey Eye. So I hope you are ready to learn how to do this look, stick to it. And I think this is a pretty easy and fun look. The first step as always is to put an eye shadow base on which I already have one on and it just as going to get a smooth palette on your eye. It’s going to help the colors stay longer and be more true and not crease.
So the first color that we’re going to use is a golden colored, this is one from Mac, it was in limited edition but really the cool thing about this look is that you can use any color that you like if you’re feeling really wild, go with the bright bold color or you can use something that’s even more neutral than this on my upper lid. The gold tends to be in between for most people, so that’s why I went with this color today, and we’re going to start by pressing that on the lid with our basic eye shadow brush, see how I’m just padding it all the way around. I’m actually blending it up, up, up even to the bow bones. So we’re not using a highlighter color with this look which is pretty unusual for me. But this is a really fun funky look because this is something for the New Year. This is something new and bold and it’s all that being creative. If you saw the looks from the runways for the fall they’re just amazing. So this is all about really experimenting and being creative and not being afraid to have fun with makeup because that’s what it’s all about. See, I’m using my finger just to blend it out at my brow bone but I’m not adding a highlighter color with this look.
Now, we’re going to take our black eyeliner. This is going to be CoverGirl Perfect Point Plus in Black Onyx and we’re going to line the lower waterline and the upper waterline. Just use your pinky to kind of hold your eye down just a little bit. You don’t have to stretch it too much and you can actually extend that line outwards just a little bit on the outside corner of the eye because you’re going to blend it with the eye shadow. Then you’re going to come underneath and this will tickle if you haven’t really done it before, it will. But you will get use to it too. The tendency is you have to blink a lot so your eyes don’t water. And then what we’re going to do is actually kind of squeeze our eye together a little bit to smudge that eye liner.
Now, we’re going to take another eye shadow to create the smokey effect on the bottom and this is going to be CoverGirl Shimmering Onyx. So we have a lot of Onyx covers tonight and then I’m just going to use the little applicator and I’m going to use the tip edge. And I’m going to basically smudge out that black eyeliner underneath and the fun thing about this is you’ve got a really thick smokey line underneath that’s kind of what makes this unique. It’s not trying to be tame and for the small line we’re just going for, we’re going to do really thick smudge line underneath the eye.
So once you’ve applied the eye shadow what I’m going to do is I’m going to take the rounded edge of the applicator that doesn’t have any color on it and blend that out a little bit more and soften it up a little bit more. Then I’m also just going to use my finger to smudge it even more. Okay, very easy. Then if you want to which I do, go back with your black eyeliner again to darken it up after you have applied the eye shadow on the water line.
Now, that is basically the eye shadow. How easy was that, really fast and easy. Then we’re going to take our trustee eyelash curler, I can’t do it without one of these. And if course the wonderful Lash Blast from CoverGirl, this is the waterproof. I have to use waterproof because my lashes are really straight and the waterproof acts almost like a hairspray for my lashes when I curl them. And put on lots and lots of mascara. And then I’m going to apply on lower lashes.
Now, we’re going to go for some concealer and as I’ve said before I always do my eyes first because it’s I think easier to clean up afterwards with your concealer and foundation or powder or whatever you’re using and I am using two colors of concealer from CoverGirl, t is Fresh Complexion and I’m using two shades. I like to do that a lot to customize it for myself and I swept it on my hand like this. Mix them together with a brush and when I’m in a hurry I’ll use a foundation brush which is normally used for liquid foundation but it’s the same consistency as the concealer so it works just fine. And put it where it’s needed. And what I’m going to do is pat that on then take my ring finger and press it in and kind of blend the edge of the concealer and with the smokeyness. And I will go back a little bit more eye shadow.
Next step is to set that with powder. We’re going to use our CoverGirl fresh look pressed powder and I’m using Translucent Light for myself. I’m patting it on with the puff just to get it nice coverage on there. And then I’m going to go back with my cosmetic brush and smooth it out.
Now, take a fluffy brush like this which you would normally use for eye shadow and if it doesn’t have any eye shadow on it take it with your powder and that’s underneath your eyes. This is going to soften that edge again of the eye shadow and help set everything underneath your eye. Now, we will do the brows which are very important with this look because it’s a very dramatic look and you want your browse to balance it out. We’re going to use our CoverGirl Brow and Eye Maker Pencil and Soft Blonde. Just make little strokes, follow the shape of your eyebrow.
Now to kind of coordinate with the gold color on our eyes I’m going to do some bronzer. This is a shimmery multicolor bronzer actually from Jane is the one I’m using right now with a fan brush making that C-shape on the side of your face. This fan brush keeps it from being too heavy when you do bronzer. It’s very useful. And our lovely great Cheekers Blush from CoverGirl in Pretty Peach is what I’ll be using on my cheeks kind of compliments equal tone but it’s still pretty neutral.
So I’m trying to keep the cheeks kind of soft for this looks since we have a really bold eye and we’re also going to have dramatic lips as well. We’re using a CoverGirl Long-Wear Lip Color, this is in coral. What I’m going to do is I’m going to swipe it on my hand probably I have to use makeup remover to get that off when I’m done. But it makes it a little bit easier for me to use. So I’m going to use my pinky actually and I’m going to press it on to my lips and blot it off on to a piece of toilet paper, so I’m really going to create a stain on my lips.
Okay, so now we’re almost finished with the look and as you can see I’ve created like a stain on my lips with the long-wear lip color and we’re going to top it of with the top coat just to make it softer but it’s not too shiny and this is going to last all night. You do not have to touch this up. You can put more top coat on it if you want. But of course we have to finish it off with our Fix+ Spray which is going to set the makeup.
So now your look is complete and this is the New Smokey Eye for the New Year. Its fun, it’s easy and fast and you can change it up any way you want with any different combination of colors. So that’s what’s new for the New Year. Hope you like it. Thanks.
