John: My name is John, I'm located in San Francisco, California. I have a very good friend whose wife complains about his persistent and loud snoring. In fact, he often tells me that he wakes up in the morning feeling extremely grumpy and tired as a result of really not sleeping very well. Could that be the sign of a sleep apnea or some related condition? Jim Jirjis: John, you've made an important observation. Sleep apnea is a very under diagnosed condition. The symptoms that you described are very classic. People snore loudly at night. Often, people will notice the person seems to stop breathing at night and then in the morning they're not rested and are irritable and throughout the day are tired. Those are signs and symptoms of sleep apnea and it's important to know that there is treatment that can really help with that disease.
