Hello and welcome! My name is Karen Danella with Cedarwood Soaps. Today, I’m going to show you how to make soap. We’re going to show you how to line the mold. We’re talk about safety issues with lye. We’re going mix the oils together and I’ll show you how to clean up and then cut the soap.
The tools and ingredients that we’ll be using today are; the wooden mold that you pour the soap into, it will be lined with Freezer Paper and we have a plastic bowl for mixing the lye and the oils together. We have a plastic pitcher for the lye and the water and we have a spoon to mix that with and we have a flat spatula for scraping the soap into the mold. We have our stick blender to mix the oil and the lye together to form a trace. You don't want to use your stick blender, your pitcher or any of your utensils here for anything else other than soap making.
So, I would suggest, just putting a label on them. Just make sure your kids know that these are for soap-making only and put them away in a safe place where children and pets can not get to them. We have our rubber gloves for safety and goggles for safety as well. We have our pre-measured oils and we have a scale for measuring the oils and the lye, and we have our additives, and we have a thermometer for measuring the temperature of the lye and the oils. We also have a miter box for slicing the soap when it's ready to be sliced.
Most of these items you can find online. The mold I had made—I know a carpenter, so that was made for me but you can find those about anywhere online and most of the other items, you can find at either K-mart or Target like the bowl, the pitcher, the blending stick, the ingredients, the additives like the essential oils, you can find online as well. And the digital scale, you can get that online too.
There are safety issues when making soaps. So let's go over those, you want to make sure that you have your children and pets clear off the area and you want to wear your safety goggles because the lye can burn your eyes and you want to make sure that you have some rubber gloves. Okay, let me tell you a little bit about myself, I graduated from Von Lee International School of Aesthetics. I worked as a skin care consultant and makeup artist for several years and I’ve always been interested in natural products and caring for my skin. So here I am making my own natural soap today.
