Kevin Simpson: Having the expectation that both your newly adopted dog and your current dog are going to become best friends from the very beginning is a pretty high expectation. Generally, we recommend to be realistic about your goals. From the beginning, if we can have the dogs go habituate in peace, respect each other and be tolerant of one another that’s actually—there’s a lot to be said about that for the dogs just too quite frankly get along. In some instances, the dogs will become best friends but in other times it may just be a learning process that can take six weeks or longer for the dogs to really learn to adjust to one another. It’s a transition for both dogs involved and not to be taken lightly on one or the other.
