Bridget Snapp: Today on clubhouse gas we are in Kennesaw Mountain High School where Varsity Fastpitch Softball coach Lisa Chapman going to teach us how to hit it out of the park.
Lisa Chapman: Today we are going to talk about the drill that we like to do to make sure that our girls are staying behind the ball and really focussing on driving and through the ball and not be in out on front foot, so this drill I got from coach Murphy of University of Alabama and its called BACK-TO-GO-FORWARD drill. Kelly is going to demonstrate here, what we are going to start with. She is going to take approach to balls she is going to stop at the ball and then when she comes back, she is going to bring her weight back on back legs so that we transferred that weight back, when she comes down she is going to plan and then drive through the ball.
I'll step back and let Kelly give you a couple of shorts of that.
Making sure we got weight transferred go-ahead and stop. Stop. Exaggerate get that weight back, down and drive, good, perfect, right there. Allow and just switch out give you different look with different bat here, we are really trying to exaggerate here making sure that we plan and we driving through the ball right here. We'll, not drive too early, we want to make contact and have good power behind the ball.
Now let's check this swing you go ahead and stop. We want to make sure the hands palm up, palm down help us to hit long drives there. Good, good. Here we go drop through that. The next drill we are going to talk about today is the SELF-TOSS drill, and there is a couple of different ways you can lead up to this, obviously the easier way is we can teach the girls is starts we have. Right hand on the bat Kelly.
And we are going toss with her left hand. Now this is a good drill, to make the girls aware, where the ball needs to be for them to hit it to the location. For instance if we want to work on hitting the ball, now its out pitched right field, Kelly is going to have to let toss that ball out here, like here on the place, so that she can make contact and hit the ball that way.
If you want to her to work on the hit inside pitch in the left foot gap, and then she is going to have the toss about more on front foot, drive it to the left foot gap. Some are like Kelly give you one to each corner, this help the girls to become aware of where the ball the location needs to be for them to make contact with it to be able to hit to drive it in that direction and then now the next lead after this is and this is little bit harder, you could get to have pretty good strength, this helps with bat control and this helps with hands getting our hands, working on getting our hand being quick to the ball.
Now she is going to hold the bat in her left hand here, and she is going to actually reach out front and toss it on front foot and then she is get a good hands back quick through the ball and we are going to work on driving this when back up the middle here, good. You want to check up on the bat a little bit. This is going to help you with bat control and getting your hands quick to ball, good.
Bridget Snapp: How did you decide on these particular drills for today?
Lisa Chapman: These 2 drills are easy drill that she can do when you are home you can get your own net bucket of balls, you don't have to have the anybody help in these drills you can work on your own this help you swing you better. Hopefully transfer over when you play the game off and getting you the good habit of having good mechanics at the play.
Bridget Snapp: Well thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us today.
Lisa Chapman: I appreciate you have me.
Bridget Snapp: Alright we have to have you back on again.
Lisa Chapman: Okay thanks.
Bridget Snapp: Thank you and Thank you for watching this edition of clubhouse gas. Will see you next time.
