You may have to install a valve in a waterline in the event of a remodeling job at your home. Hi I am Tim Carter from AsktheBuilder.com and that is exactly what is going on at my home right now.
Currently, upstairs, carpenters are taking apart my kitchen and I have to disconnect the kitchen sink but I do not want to just sweat caps on the actual copper lines. I want to go ahead and put a ball valve in this copper waterline and this one as well so that I can shot the water off and then down the road later on on the job, we can reconnect the sink easily and not have to shudder or cut off those copper caps. But here is what I want to tell you about this job. I have got two places where I can actually put in this valve. I can either put it in this open span right here or I could go over here and put it in. but it is much easier to do the job here but you might be a little timid because you will see this gas line in the way and you see this wires. Do not worry about those things. You can actually easily cut in the valve at these locations because this is a black iron pipe, even if the heat from the torch gets close to it, it will not cause any problems. The key thing to remember is that you have to cut out a small section of the copper tubing to be able to get the valve in placed and the amount of copper tubing that is cut out actually is about an inch and a quarter, it is from this point of the valve right here to this point of the valve here and you will actually cut that out, we will go ahead and clean the pipe, clean the inside of the actual valve, forks it, shuddered, and away we go. We are ready to keep moving forward on the kitchen remodeling project. Check it out. We got it all shuddered out, we are ready to go. I have let it cool down and here is a really important step. Once the pipe is cool enough to kind of touch, you want to make sure you take a rag or a paper towel and wipe where you shuddered like this and get all the old flex off. Because if you do not get the flex off copper, it will actually corrode it and it will cause a leak down the road. It is that easy to put a valve in a copper line.
