SolidWorks 2006 has many enhancements that are geared towards plastic—part manufactures and designers, and one of them is our fasting features, sweet of tools.
It is now extremely ‘easy to add features’ such none mounting bosses. These are features that are found in many plastic parts. We simply pick a phase in a direction and then key in specific attributes of the mounting boss. This is a tremendous time saver.
What is nice is, you can actually locate the mounting boss using geometry of other parts. In this case, I have centered the mounting boss on a hole on the PC board. You can see, it is easy to tweak the geometry to get exactly the mounting boss you want, whether it is pin-bossed or a whole mounting-hole boss. So it really is an effective tool.
We also have snap hooks. These are found in almost every plastic part. Again, it works with surrounding geometry. I pick its location and some direction. I can pick phases of PC board which I wish to lock down and then can key-in the dimensional parameters.
Once you walk through adding these bosses, it is going to remember the dimensions the next time you go through this command. And they act like regular features. In fact I can pattern and mirror these features around. I am mirroring the snap hook in this example.
A third fastening feature is the snap hook groove. And, here you could see as I change its place state, even while I am editing apart, we can look at the top cover and you can see the different snap hooks that we have.
So we want to make a mating feature, a snap hook groove on the bottom half of the remote. We can just quickly get to a section view and point out the area of concern.
The snap hook groove command is very easy to use. You simply pick the snap hook of interested and the body of which you would like to cut a snap hook groove. This does work in multiple body, so in fact this whole remote could had been defined in one part if I chose so.
You can specify offset parameters and so the work takes to labor out of positioning that groove. It cuts it automatically and of course it is associated back to that original snap hook.
It is get functionality, huge time savers for manufactures and designers of plastic parts. That is the fastening features.
