Sony Ericsson W580 – Review
This is Sony Ericsson W580 video a preview by PhoneArena.com. As this is a prototype unit we will show you only the new interesting features and we’ll miss the standard parts. The W580 is a slider Walkman based on S500. It is few millimeters thicker than W910 but has smaller width. It is almost the same as S500 when it comes to hardware but its software has a few advantages. The W510 has the same 2.1 inch QVGA display with 262,000 colors by the S500.
It is smaller than the one on the W910 but has similar brightness and higher contrast. The navigation keys below are very similar to those of S500. But here, the left soft key is merged with the back and the right one with clear which is inconvenient. They’re hard to press and without tactile feedback. The five-way D-Pad is illuminated in bright blue while the numeric keys are in darker variation of the blue color.
Just like the S500, the W580 has one LED on each side to bring control by the theme. They blink in both standby and when there’s incoming call. The software of the 580 is similar to the one of S500 in early models. The camera is also the same as the one of S500 with portrait oriented display and text menu for the options and the camcorder captures useless small videos. As it’s a Walkman, the standard music player is replaced with Walkman 2.0 player. It displays the album covers, some information, small icons for the settings applied. Together with the W910, W580 as long of the first Sony Ericsson phone with—technology which were aware to change the played track to next, previous or random by shaking the device in your hand.
Unfortunately, our prototype didn’t support this. Another application of the W580 offers is called fitness which will keep track of your physical activity that they will measure the depths you’ve gone, the distance passed and the energy you used in calories. The phonebook organizer and messaging and other functionalities typical for Sony Ericsson phones with all its browser and icons and we’ll not discuss it here.
The W580 is a nice sliding Walkman phone but doesn’t offer much new things compared to the W910, it has older interface without the cool flash menu with other version of the Walkman player and with simple camera options. If you’re looking for slider Walkman the W910 is a better option—
