This is Phone Arena’s video review of the Sony Ericsson W810 walkman phone. This is the successor of the W800 and shares most of its features and adds new better themes, high speed edge data and quad band GSM. Overall it’s a small candy bar phone in black color. It definitely cannot be called solid. The whole back panel makes very annoying noises when you slightly squeeze. The old joystick has been replace with a new super D-pad which also functions as music controls when you’re in a music playback mode.
Next to it are the back and the clear. The soft and two dedicated keys. The left one is the Walkman, and the right one is a shortcut key which is handy for example for switching Bluetooth on and off. The numeric keypad is made of plastic and is comfortable for use with excellent key press response. There are space between all the keys and they are slightly raised. The left side, there is a slot for memory stick duo pro cards which are hot swappable and used for storing key music on them.
There are also some keys from the left and on the right side but more on that later. On the back is situated a two mega pixel auto focus camera a flash for it and a speaker phone while on the top there is a power key which is also used for changing the profiles. The 1.9 inch TFT display is with a 172 by 220 pixel resolution and is capable of displaying 262000 colors. It is very bright with excellent contrast and color saturation.
More of the features of the W810 is the theme customization capabilities. Unlike the previous generations switching the theme does not only change the background images but the icons and the LED as well. Changing the theme to equalizer, the menu is no longer the standard width of three by four icons but a horizontal list which cross from left to right and has large animated icons. Changing the theme to emerge we can see how he icons change in different style with animation.
Also when moving around the main menu the phone slightly vibrates. The new themes allow a complete makeover of the interface and a big step forward in the customization which we also much like. The phone book is kept the same as the previous SE models. The names of the contacts are showed as list. Each contact entry can store up to five different numbers, picture, and even ring tone, web and mailing addresses and additional information such as the date of birth which can be added with the calendar so the users notified on that date.
The organizer is also the same from the previous models and is very simple and easy to use. There is only one alarm that can be set. The calendar has monthly or weekly views and to do notes with alarms that can be easily set.
The overall combination of user friendly interface, small dimensions, walkman music player, two mega pixel camera and superior cleaning makes the phone a pleasure to use.
