Sony Ericsson W880 - Reviews
This is Phone Arena’s video review of the Sony Ericsson slim W880 which is the current high tech music oriented model. The W880 started as the innovation of the Sony Ericsson unit for a long time. A slim and stylish device, unfortunately the slim body comes with a high price with dual functionality and the two slim sides we can now choose the smaller than average keys which are the camera shutter and volume control on the right and the walkman key on the left. Here is also the port to connect in the charger and USB cable and headphones and the empty memories for dual with protective cover.
Taking in to the front, we have a small and futuristic phone with microphone cover and combination of black and orange covers beginning from the top to bottom, we first have the camera for video calling with a in goes speaker, after that is a small display with QBG resolution which is high for its size. Images will then look very good and with saturated colors with high contrast but within its physical size, it is too small. Below it is the keypads which are fairly wide over the small size of each key. The black software and shortcut keys, the sewer 5-point D pad and the orange numeric keys are all easily felt or pressed softly and return robust tactile feedback.
This is probably the best keypad for most slim phone we have tested so far. There is nothing to the top or bottom sides and the back houses to make the pixel camera; unfortunately, there is neither flash nor mirror but more in its performance later. Sony Ericsson has not updated its software and the one in the W880 is almost the same as with previous models. The menu is 3x4 grip with icons but using a flash you-like theme like the Citybeat, it can be visualized as horizontal list; other themes can change its superiors in different ways. The phonebook can store a thousand contacts with up to five numbers each and few other fields.
Search into the contact place is mediocre by first name only; the organizer has five alarms, calendar, tasks and notes. But let us go to the music player first; this is the walkman 2.0 but it is not very different from the previous one except for the new interface, you can filter new music by artist or album or use playlist. The equalizers will change the way the music sounds with the headphones. The speaker phone gives relatively high and powerful sounds, but we suggest the headphones to be used for better results. Although those in the box are branded with the walkman logo, their quality is very well and we advise you to change them with different ones. This is easy as the Sony Ericsson has included 3.5 millimeter jack converter and you can replace the ear piece part only.
The camera starts with three seconds only which is very fast, its interface is similar to other Sony Ericsson phones. Shooting outdoors is very pleasing results with very good exposure and realistic hours. Best results are achieved with objects with buildings because of the fixed focus; zooming to a hundred percent we see that images are a little blurry because of the noise reduction system. The camera does not have flash which if not seen on it uses anyway, so no big deal. The indoor images are all white are very noisy and unusable, so keep shooting only outdoors.
The Internet browser offers you HTML, but as the screen is very small we would not use after, the W880 performed well as a phone, although it has weak signal strength, ones it connects the voice quality is very high. The other sides you very strong can hear and you also hear them good but the sound started sharp without more frequencies in the voice.
We like theme body of the phone, its solid construction, comfortable keypad and sharp display. But some of its specification disappointed us; we do not like the fact the manufacturer has to do the camera with less functionality than the W800 which is two years older than the first walkman. Neither that it has in the FM radio support; still, if music is a particular concern and if you want slim and well-made phone, the W880 is nice 3G capable.
