Welcome to the phoneArena.com un-boxing of the Sony Ericson XPERIA X1. The X1 is Sony’s first X Series device, as well as it’s first Windows Mobile Device. It’s a high end phone with all the fancy features.
It has got a 3.2 mega pixel camera, built in GPRS Wi-Fi, and high speed 3G Data. It feels very good and the battery is not in it right now so it’s a little bit light but that’s a very, very smooth hinge mechanism. It is much better than feeling on the Touch Pro we just reviewed. Let’s see what else we have on the box.
Here we have a stereo headset jack. You see the adaptor for the power cord. Something that we’ve seen on recent devices that we really like is that it uses the USB cord to plug-in, the battery of course, USB charging cable, and last but not the least connector stylus.
We imagine there will be documentation in this box and indeed that is what we find. Let’s go of that for the first time, take a look at Sony’s new panel interface. This is the first time we’ve seen the Sony Windows Mobile Device. It looks very intriguing. You can see it is the sim card slot, we have a sim card in we’ll see if looks at skip past that right now. A little bit of on issue going on with this battery going here. It’s not going on quite smoothly. All right so there we go.
Let’s go ahead and turn on and see what happens. The screen is WVGA and it’s absolutely gorgeous. We can tell already. WVGA is 480x800 and at the top of our heads, we think that’s the highest on the market right now. We loved the Touch Diamond Touch Prose Screen which is simply VGA. The widescreen aspect will make it all that better for watching videos.
As we can see Windows Mobile 6.1 here, what HTC has done with the Touch Diamond and Pro is skinned it with their touch flow 3D interface. We were a big fan of it and then we’ll if Sony Ericson can one up them with the panel interface. All right, we have uploaded it up now. Interestingly it does boot through to a regular Windows Mobile Home Screen. It hit the panel bottom down here and it should bring up and there we go, the panel interface.
We’ve got seven of them right now. There is room for nine and when we touch them you get it nice little click with hectic feedback. There are lots of different little widgets you can add to this. These are just the pre defined ones. We’ll take a deeper look into them but so far we are impressed with it. It’s quick, it’s very responsive, and we like what we see so far. Keep an eye out for our full review of the Sony XPERIA X1 coming soon.
