Sony Unveils Its First Netbook PC

It’s been awhile coming but Sony is finally launching a netbook and in doing so entering the only set of the PC market. That is showing significant growth at present. This new VIAO W is based around the same Intel ASEM N280 processor used in many other netbooks. And it has a similar tanning screen but the VIAO W has a higher resolution of 1366x768 pixels. That means more of a website can be fitted on to the screen and the user will have to scroll less than using competing netbooks.

Sony is planning to use the higher resolution as one of the key differentiates between the VIAO W and other computers on the market. It will also promote the machines touch panel which is about the same sizes that is found on conventional laptops. Prices will be around at 60,000 Yen in Japan and that is around $630.00 but it will be cheaper in other markets. In the U.S, it will cost around $500.00. It gets all major markets worldwide in August. Sony came to place to launching a netbook earlier this year when it put the VIAO P on sale. The computer is smaller than many netbook but runs Windows Vista on the more powerful of Intel’s Atom Processors.

The PC industry witness a record decline in the first quarter of this year as grim economic conditions caused many consumers and companies to postpone non-essential purchases. Global shipments fell 8% again the same period of 2008 led by a sharp decline in demand for desktop PCs according to I-Supply.
