Sources of Back Pain

Sara: Hi, my name is Sara from Summerville, Massachusetts and I was wondering how to tell when back pain is really a problem with the muscles or a problem with the bones in the spine. Jeffrey Wang: Sara, that's a great question. A lot of people have back pain and they are trying to figure out where it is coming from. And typically if it is the muscles, there is the onset after some type of physical activity. So if you've been playing some type of sporting activity or if you feel like you've been moving something or lifting something and that brings about pain, that's typically muscle pain. If there is arthritis in the bone that pain usually comes on gradually and can be fairly severe. The other way to really know is, perhaps, to see your doctor if you're concerned and have him do a full evaluation.
