Gary Vaynerchuk: Hello everybody and welcome to Wine Library TV. I am your host Gary Vaynerchuk and this is my friend, it’s the Thunder Show, AKA the internet’s most passionate wine program and I know you see it. It’s always fun for me when somebody dramatically more famous than me comes and sits down. As a triple Z-list celebrity, it’s very easy for that to be accomplished. We have a very special guest with a really cool theme. Samantha, why don’t you tell the Vayner nation, to the few that don’t know who you are, who you are, what you do and that kind of stuff? Samantha Brown: Well, a pleasure to be here Gary. Gary Vaynerchuk: Thank you. Samantha Brown: My name is Samantha Brown. I am on the Travel Channel. And I’ve been on the Travel Channel for 10 years. I get to travel around the world and taste the wine around the world. It is a huge pleasure being here with Gary because I’ve been going to the Wine Library for easily a decade, long before I was anything that he claims I am so it’s great to be here with some—a place that I’ve been to many times. Gary Vaynerchuk: So, we’re doing a South American theme today. I am really excited. We’re doing a wine—a couple of wine, a chill plain wine. A wine from Uruguay which is a lot of fun and so we kind of went with that theme South America. It’s a place you’ve been to. Samantha Brown: Yeah, absolutely. Gary Vaynerchuk: Won’t you able to—little bit more known from you when you do, I mean just seeing you in the Travel Channel, we’ll give you another minute. Samantha Brown: Okay. Gary Vaynerchuk: Go and chill a little bit. Samantha Brown: I do. I get to travel the world. I have a few series right now running on the Travel Channel. Passport to Latin America is one of them. There’s also Passport to Europe. Right now, we’re doing Asia. And so I just got back from Vietnam. And this year, I am celebrating my 10 years on the Travel Channel which is amazing. I never thought I’d have this job. Gary Vaynerchuk: So, let’s take it back a step because I am sure a lot of people are interested. I’m actually interested. How did you stumble onto that? Samantha Brown: Stumble is actually the right term. Gary Vaynerchuk: Okay. Samantha Brown: I had no idea I’d ever have a job like this. I went to school— Gary Vaynerchuk: What did you do prior? Samantha Brown: I went to school for musical theater and moved to New York City to be in theater to be a— Gary Vaynerchuk: Where did you grow up? Samantha Brown: I grew up in New Hampshire on the seacoast. We have 20 miles of it, it’s adorable—takes it all but what we have is great. So, I was just a small town girl from New Hampshire and moved to the big city and didn’t make it. It’s been a lot of competition and just started doing more of comedy and improvisational theater. Gary Vaynerchuk: You do the—thing. Samantha Brown: And I loved that but sketch comedy not by myself. Gary Vaynerchuk: Okay. Samantha Brown: I couldn’t do it. Gary Vaynerchuk: Yup. Samantha Brown: I can’t do stand up. That’s too hard and just one thing led to another and I got chosen to audition for the Travel Channel from tapes that I had and so they chose me— Gary Vaynerchuk: You had an agent at the time? Samantha Brown: No, no. I didn’t have an agent. Gary Vaynerchuk: So, they just saw you. Samantha Brown: I submitted myself for this commercial. I got the commercial. It was a national commercial. People saw me in the commercial. They said, “We’d like to see her, how do we find her?” They found me. And then after I had the Travel Channel then I could get an agent and now— Gary Vaynerchuk: Sure. Samantha Brown: And now they—now, I had people working for me which is great but in the beginning, no, I wasn’t absolutely oh no. Gary Vaynerchuk: But what was the first thing you did? Samantha Brown: First thing we did was this series called Great Vacation Homes. And so I just spent the time in people’s homes and learned about them and what they did for fun. Gary Vaynerchuk: What was that feeling like when you landed that geek? Samantha Brown: I actually was like, ‘Oh God’ I don’t—I didn’t know what I was going to do because it was hosting. And hosting today is really popular. A lot of people are hosts but 10 years ago, there were many hosts. And those that were hosts were very sort of perfect presentator types and— Gary Vaynerchuk: Sure. Samantha Brown: And you know, very stiff and I knew I wasn’t that. So, I wanted to do something differently. And so it was actually a little intimidating because I just thought whatever the job is of a host, I am not it. And I really hope the Travel Channel is going to like— Gary Vaynerchuk: Gets it. Samantha Brown: Yeah, yeah. It’s got to end and love it. Gary Vaynerchuk: How about the moment when you got the phone call like you’ve got it. Samantha Brown: Oh my gosh, yeah, yeah. I mean I was literally— Gary Vaynerchuk: Did you like run in to the Hampshire. Did you like hang up the phone just like run I mean. Samantha Brown: At this point, I was waiting on tables for the 8th year in New York City. So, getting that call in my apron and the you know— Gary Vaynerchuk: No way Samantha Brown: At the restaurant saying you’ve got the job and being like, ‘Okay, tie this up. Bye guys!’ Gary Vaynerchuk: Did you just walk out? Samantha Brown: Oh well no. I think I—I think I work for the next month— Gary Vaynerchuk: I’m trying, I was to get that. I’m such a bad person, so? Samantha Brown: So long suckers! Gary Vaynerchuk: Eat it! Samantha Brown: Exactly. Here is your steak. No, and so that was—it was a huge moment. Gary Vaynerchuk: Sure. Awesome! Okay so, so what the whole, you know Latin America thing going on, I thought we could get into a couple of wines. You’re a wine enthusiast. Samantha Brown: Oh, a huge one enthusiast. Gary Vaynerchuk: Why don’t you tell everybody your wine background, was it—was it yeah? Samantha Brown: Well, my parents—I’m pretty sure I was conceived over bottled Blue Nun. Gary Vaynerchuk: Nice. Samantha Brown: Because that’s what my parent’s are drinking at the time. I think Rio Nido hadn’t even come into day. But box wine and so, didn’t really know much about wine until I started waiting on tables. And I waited on tables for a good 10 years not just in New York but back in New Hampshire. And so as a waiter, as a server— Gary Vaynerchuk: Sure. Samantha Brown: You have to know wines. Gary Vaynerchuk: And that’s where it started. Samantha Brown: And that’s where the love started and I love— Gary Vaynerchuk: Did the love start quickly or no? Samantha Brown: Pretty quickly. I mean you know as I—you know you’re like, ‘Okay, cheap beer, wine coolers, wine. Wow now, now this is drinking.’ So, we all start with the bad bottle of beer. Gary Vaynerchuk: Sure. Samantha Brown: And realized there’s got to be a better way and— Gary Vaynerchuk: And then we to go to—and that doesn’t work out so— Samantha Brown: So and then also with the waiting on tables, just getting obviously servers sit around the table like this and we pour. Gary Vaynerchuk: What was the best wine program you worked on in New York? Samantha Brown: I was at a restaurant called Bryant Park Grill which is still here today. Gary Vaynerchuk: Oh yeah, yeah. Samantha Brown: And they had a lovely wine program, a wonderful wine food and beverage manager. And just people—because it’s so central, it’s right there and right off of 42nd Street— Gary Vaynerchuk: Sure. Samantha Brown: Beautiful park, gorgeous restaurant right behind the library. A lot of people go to it. So, we’re always tasting different wines. And you know obviously I’m tasting the wines that I can’t afford as a waiter. So, that was really nice. Gary Vaynerchuk: Is that the place you learned the most about wine— Samantha Brown: Yes. Gary Vaynerchuk: Or was there a different place where you learned? Samantha Brown: No, that was the place where I learned the most about wine and you try and it’s funny like you learn the bulk of what you learn and then you realize, ‘Oh gosh, I really have to reboot my knowledge because as you know wine, it’s amazing concept to changes. Not only— Gary Vaynerchuk: It’s what allows me to do the show. Samantha Brown: Every single year—every single year, there’s a whole different— Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes. Samantha Brown: I mean this bottle wine isn’t going to taste the same next year. Gary Vaynerchuk: I mean, not only would this wine not change that—would taste differently in a year, there’s a new vintage of this wine. Samantha Brown: Right. Gary Vaynerchuk: Whereas if this was beer library, you know, after four years, you know I might have hit the majority of the craft ooze out there. Samantha Brown: Exactly. We know what a pumpkin ale taste like— Gary Vaynerchuk: And listen, crock beer is amazing but, you know, Sally’s pumpkin ale is the formula. Samantha Brown: Right, right. Gary Vaynerchuk: So, that’s it. Samantha Brown: Yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: I mean there’s no taste, I mean there’s been wines in the show as Mott will tell you. He’s a story of the show then we’ve taste it three times, four times because we’ve had multiple vintages. All right, let’s get into the first wine. We’re going into the Quintay Casablanca which is the area I’ve been yapping about from Chile for Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, I think that those are two varietals that are going to shine in the next decade in Chile and almost people think it’s a Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot country. This is their ’08 Sauvignon Blanc, it’s a $15.00 wine and I’m excited about trying it. Samantha Brown: Me too. Gary Vaynerchuk: Last year is vintage. It was very highly scored and exciting. Samantha Brown: Do you know where the Casablanca Valley is? Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes. It’s a— Samantha Brown: Because Chile is sort of like a stream being— Gary Vaynerchuk: And it’s right on the coast. I mean it’s coming right off of the coast. So, you’re getting a lot of those cool winds. And it’s a really beautiful place and what’s really interesting is that it was an extremely fascinating because the two varietals that are really singing are Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir which if you put that in old world terms, that’s the Loire valley and Burgundy. Samantha Brown: Right, they’re not even near each other. Gary Vaynerchuk: And so, it’s really quite interesting; it really is. So, let’s give it a sniffy sniff. Samantha Brown: Okay. I think I know how to do this. Gary Vaynerchuk: Because you know, that is an important part. And this is going to be by far the most interesting thing about this wine. Yeah. This is a very aromatically interesting wine. Samantha Brown: Yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: It has been in the past and here is again. Samantha Brown: It should be a perfume. I just pour this all over myself. Gary Vaynerchuk: But it is very perfume-like. Samantha Brown: Yes. Gary Vaynerchuk: Are you picking up the grassiness? Samantha Brown: Yeah, absolutely. It’s almost like a Sauvignon Blanc, is it? Gary Vaynerchuk: It is a Sauvignon Blanc. Samantha Brown: Oh, oh it is! Okay, yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: It is a Sauvignon Blanc, yes. Samantha Brown: That would be the grass you know. Gary Vaynerchuk: I’m also getting a little bit of like a guava and a pineapple little tropical fruit. Samantha Brown: Tropical fruit there? Gary Vaynerchuk: Yeah, on the backend. So, you get the grass and inner—and then you get a little tropical fruit and then even alcohol over those. Samantha Brown: So I love this, I mean I’ve been traveling, tasting wine for I don’t know; 15 years and I’m still like, “Ah, it tastes good.” Gary Vaynerchuk: Like white one. Samantha Brown: I sometimes like yeah, that’s it. That’s the stuff. Pour. Gary Vaynerchuk: What else? Are you picking up anything else on the nose? Samantha Brown: So, I definitely had. It’s a little bit grassy and then a little bit granite? A little more stones to it. Gary Vaynerchuk: Okay, yeah. Samantha Brown: I have a bit of minerality in here. Gary Vaynerchuk: Yeah and almost smoky actually this time around for me. Do you like the smell? I mean again, I didn’t make this. Samantha Brown: Right. Gary Vaynerchuk: I have no emotional attachment. If you hate it more than life, in a weird way, I am happy. Samantha Brown: I am no hating it more than life. Gary Vaynerchuk: Okay but what— Samantha Brown: I like life a little more than— Gary Vaynerchuk: Fair enough. Where do you put this on the nose for your palate? Samantha Brown: Personally, I think Sauvignon Blancs, not my favorite wine because of the grassy note. Obviously wine, it’s just completely whoever you are, you like a certain— Gary Vaynerchuk: Your second touch like you load a lot of grass in Hampshire and you’re bitter about it. Samantha Brown: —New Hampshire. I never got to go to camp—summer camp because my parents wanted me around to do lawn work and so I guess that’s what’s coming up, very good. Gary Vaynerchuk: So, this is more about your childhood, nothing else. Samantha Brown: Absolutely, this is emotional and I feel like my dad still lose me $5.00 for my allowance, so— Gary Vaynerchuk: Clearly. Samantha Brown: You know, okay thanks. I’m going to start crying. Gary Vaynerchuk: Dad. Samantha Brown: Yeah $5.00, I mold the lawn and I took out the dog but here is this. Gary Vaynerchuk: Where is the cash dad? Samantha Brown: He did paper collage though. Gary Vaynerchuk: All right— Samantha Brown: Yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: All right, let’s give this a whirl. Samantha Brown: Thank you. Great taste. Gary Vaynerchuk: You like it? Samantha Brown: I like—it taste better than the scent. I do. Gary Vaynerchuk: What do you like about it? Samantha Brown: The minerality is coming out but in the grassy tone. Gary Vaynerchuk: Yeah, I agree. What you pick up on the nose becomes really the dynamic part of this wine. You know, just last week on the show, I talked about a rock salad. Mott, you might remember that one than compared to rock salad, just getting a bunch of rock, crushing it, eating it. In a way, this has an enormous amount of that similar style where you’re getting a lot of flinty rock, blue stone. Samantha Brown: Yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: And then you’re getting that squirt of lemon that you don’t like that I always put on top my salad. There’s a lot of citrus notes on this wine. Are you getting the lemon lime thing? Samantha Brown: Absolutely. Gary Vaynerchuk: I feel like sprite invaded this wine. Samantha Brown: Exactly. It’s very bright. It’s a very bright wine. Gary Vaynerchuk: No question. Let me give it one more shot. Samantha Brown: And I like that, I mean if it’s sort of if we’re in Chile, we’re at the foothills of the Andes. Gary Vaynerchuk: Yup. Samantha Brown: You want to taste the foothills of the Andes in the wine. Gary Vaynerchuk: I feel that way that’s why I always eat the ground where I go. Samantha Brown: Do you really? Gary Vaynerchuk: You should start incorporating that into your show. Samantha Brown: Eating dirt. Gary Vaynerchuk: You’re just grabbing it from the ground. You want to taste the true essence of the Tero. Samantha Brown: Okay. I am not going do that in Jersey though. Gary Vaynerchuk: Well, it’s okay. I understand that. I understand. I’m a Brooklyn. Samantha Brown: I’ll wait until I am in Bordeaux. Brooklyn, I don’t know either. Gary Vaynerchuk: I am going to score this wine 89 points. I think this is very lively. I like the bright fruit. There’s almost like a fig component coming in on the aftertaste right now. Samantha Brown: Yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: Isn’t that wild? Samantha Brown: Yeah, yeah, yeah it’s lovely. Gary Vaynerchuk: It’s really quite nice actually. Samantha Brown: So, you do have a little of thumbnail going on with the fig. Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes. Samantha Brown: More of the harvest would be coming there. Gary Vaynerchuk: Absolutely. Yeah. Samantha Brown: So, you could pair this with some more serious food than you would in traditional Sauvignon Blanc I think. Gary Vaynerchuk: Especially because the acidity that’s on the back as well. It’s got to stand up and so to me, really I mean, you know what I am gravitating towards is like some crab meat dish. Samantha Brown: Oh nice. Gary Vaynerchuk: You know I would like—I think that could really pair nicely. Samantha Brown: When is that arriving? Is there a food service? Is there room service here? Gary Vaynerchuk: Mott, can you go and tell somebody to—where’s that chef? We need a chef on here. Samantha Brown: Right. Gary Vaynerchuk: Yeah, we do at Gourmet Library. Mott, is it cut off on this screen this time. Look at that. Look at that. So yeah, I would go on 89 point wine for my palate. Reason it doesn’t go to that next plateau because I think the mid-palate was a little hollow. Samantha Brown: Okay. Gary Vaynerchuk: It got a little boring for me in the middle. I really like how it, you know, I like the bouquet more than you did. I like that insanity. I love the finish. Samantha Brown: Yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: And that actually has me wondering, is this the kind of white wine, maybe another six months, two year from now, it fattens out, it fills out. And I like it. Samantha Brown: Would you—if you would keep that and age that a bit, is that what you’re saying? Gary Vaynerchuk: This wine will last for three to four years and people don’t think about Sauvignon Blanc that way. Samantha Brown: Really? No, I don’t think about white wine that way at all. Gary Vaynerchuk: 99% of the wine drinkers in the states don’t think that way about white wine. Our white wine is drank too soon, a puree that especially when you get into sharp— Samantha Brown: And too fast but that’s my own personal— Gary Vaynerchuk: Well, no question. Amazing! Not only is she a TV personality but clearly, she’s an athlete. Samantha Brown: Yes. Gary Vaynerchuk: Why don’t you tell us your athletic background? Samantha Brown: Well, I played for the Jets and— Gary Vaynerchuk: I remember those— Samantha Brown: Yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: I was very upset—that drop you had against broke my heart. Samantha Brown: I apologize. It was cold. It was Buffalo. Gary Vaynerchuk: That was really impressive. Samantha Brown: No. Gary Vaynerchuk: Mott, remind me to clip that little piece and put on YouTube. We’ll make trillions of you know hot views of the amazing. That was really good. Samantha Brown: I do have amazing regrets. Gary Vaynerchuk: And I mean right now you’re pretty pumped. Samantha Brown: Yeah, it’s like I feel like— Gary Vaynerchuk: You’re happy with yourself. Samantha Brown: Yeah, I can probably leave right now. Gary Vaynerchuk: Yeah, that’s it. Thank you everyone! Samantha Brown: Thank you! Gary Vaynerchuk: You with a little—all right, let’s move on. That was amazing. Samantha Brown: Yeah, please. Gary Vaynerchuk: Good hands. Samantha Brown: I’ll try to do that with red. Gary Vaynerchuk: I know. I know. That was good. All right, this next wine is one the more neat and nerdy wines that we’ve gone on the show. Samantha Brown: Nerdy? Gary Vaynerchuk: Nerdy. Samantha Brown: I like that. What makes a wine nerdy? Gary Vaynerchuk: Yeah, we get nerdy. Well, because it’s from Uruguay. It’s a very intriguing blend. We haven’t done a lot of wines from Uruguay, so we approached the 800th show, that’s a pretty big accomplishment. Samantha Brown: I had no idea thy even made wines. Yeah. Uruguay. Gary Vaynerchuk: Yeah. Uruguay, sorry. Samantha Brown: Yeah. You know it’s— Gary Vaynerchuk: Listen, listen, listen, I put here everything so I respect it. Samantha Brown: I visited the country, it’s hard not to pronounce it though, I’m sorry. Gary Vaynerchuk: Properly. Samantha Brown: No, I know, Gary Vaynerchuk: Uruguay wine, here we go, the Estro 08. This is a US$12.00 wine. This gets really interesting. The Estro is 60% Gewurztraminer, 30% Chard and 10% Moscato Samantha Brown: Have they every paired those three varietals together in a wine? I mean it sounds like you know, when like super groups get together like Supertramp—the lead singer of Supertramp is going to pair up with sticks and they are going to get together with, I don’t know. Gary Vaynerchuk: I like where you’re going with this. Samantha Brown: You know what I mean like you’ve got all these different— Gary Vaynerchuk: Taking very fascinating things in Uruguay, you know— Samantha Brown: It’s Uruguay. Gary Vaynerchuk: It’s Uruguay! You know Uruguay goes a whole different way. Samantha Brown: Or you could—if you’ve watch the Simpsons—Homer Simpson pointed out the country and said there is a country name “Uruguay”. And I tell you that Uruguayans loved it. Gary Vaynerchuk: That is a brilliant, were they— Samantha Brown: Oh, they were so excited but they were actually— Gary Vaynerchuk: They’ll take any press they can get. Samantha Brown: They have wonderful people. Gary Vaynerchuk: Anything they can get. Samantha Brown: Small country, not a lot, yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: Good for them. Samantha Brown: Argentina and then the Brazil take all of the creditors. Gary Vaynerchuk: Now, this comes—if you look at a country, this comes from like the Florida area, like southeast area. And Gewurztraminer and Chard is a very interesting combo. I’ve had it a couple of times in different places that people are just really fooling around that they don’t even release it often. So, I am dying to see what happens on the nose here. I am really interested in this wine. I’ve been like kind of pump and thinking about this wine for the last couple weeks. And then when we knew we’re doing this, I said, uh-huh. Samantha Brown: This is the person to taste. Gary Vaynerchuk: This is the person, because not only is she amazingly cool but her hands. She’s very quick. Samantha Brown: I am— Gary Vaynerchuk: She is massively athletic. Samantha Brown: Not just going to oversee if I catch you. Gary Vaynerchuk: All right, let’s give this a sniffy sniff. Samantha Brown: Oh, wow. Gary Vaynerchuk: What do you got on the nose? Samantha Brown: Okay, it disappeared on me. It was very strong— Gary Vaynerchuk: It disappeared on me too. Samantha Brown: And then it went— Gary Vaynerchuk: This actually smells exactly like something to me. Samantha Brown: It’s very clean; very clean so I don’t— Gary Vaynerchuk: Which is a bad thing by the way because I don’t— Samantha Brown: Is it? Okay because— Gary Vaynerchuk: Well yes. It is clean but you know what? It is aromatically challenged. Samantha Brown: Yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: If I agree with you, in the beginning it kind of came across. It’s pretty faint. Samantha Brown: Yeah and then also— Gary Vaynerchuk: I mean, there’s not a lot going on here. But it does smell like something to me. There is a Argentinean, ironically which is the next country were going to honey candy that I eat. It’s got like a little bee on it. I don’t know where I got it. Somebody sent it to me and when you open the wrapper, the scent of honey and almost like a waxy candy component is exactly what this wine smells like because the honey is probably the thing I pick up on the nose more than anything. Samantha Brown: But the wax, you feel kind of neutralizes the flavors. You don’t smell it— Gary Vaynerchuk: Right. Do you smell this little like waxy candy thing? Samantha Brown: Yeah. Yeah, like almost—there’s almost something masking the smell or the nose; I’m sorry, wine— Gary Vaynerchuk: It’s kind of interesting. There’s almost like a rubber kind of—there’s almost like a product kind of thing going on here too. Not like a rubber ball like when I talk about rocket ball or the super bouncy pink ball, not that. Now, back to the honey; the honey wax. Samantha Brown: It’s just so faint. Gary Vaynerchuk: It is. Let’s give it a whirl. Let’s see if the palate brings anything to the table. Not pretty to you? Samantha Brown: It just doesn’t do anything. It’s none offensive. It’s neither here nor there. I mean different to it. Gary Vaynerchuk: Because we have different palates. Samantha Brown: Okay. Gary Vaynerchuk: I like this wine. I really do. Samantha Brown: Why? Gary Vaynerchuk: Because I really enjoy this kind of floral spiciness that the wine has the mid palate. Samantha Brown: I am picking up a little spice now here. Gary Vaynerchuk: Right here, right? Samantha Brown: Yeah, yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: That’s exactly where it is, on the cheeks. I actually that this is—it actually taste the way I would think premium potpourri melted down would taste like. Samantha Brown: Well now, that’s going to sell a bottle wine. Gary Vaynerchuk: But that’s kind of what’s going on. I view this flavor in my mouth as like wild brush flowers that somebody like you know like you go to a bazaar. Samantha Brown: Yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: And like you could make your own potpourri. Samantha Brown: Sure, sure. Gary Vaynerchuk: And I have no idea what is going on. And I’m like that, “It looks like a—” but I don’t even know what’s going on and you take a little and you make the potpourri and you give it to mom for Mothers Day. That’s what this tastes like to me. Samantha Brown: So now, you’re getting a more of an emotional note here as well. You thought about your mom. Gary Vaynerchuk: That’s right. Samantha Brown: The grass thing about my dad with the grassy notes that I didn’t get my allowance. Mon, good. Gary Vaynerchuk: Right, mom the greatest person of all time. This is a 150 point wine. Samantha Brown: Yeah. Gary Vaynerchuk: Right, yeah I mean, there is something going on there but I do like the spiciness. For example, I think this would be an amazing wine with Thai food. Samantha Brown: Oh. Yeah—time. Gary Vaynerchuk: An amazing, amazing wine or even where you just came from, back from Vietnam. Samantha Brown: Vietnam and it’s a— Gary Vaynerchuk: This is absolutely. This is the kind of wine because it’s got the acidity, not too much. It’s got these flavors that are really interesting. Very floral and it’s kind of creamy to me. Samantha Brown: It is creamy. Gary Vaynerchuk: It’s also like—it’s complex. I’m not pervert. I’m an anti— Samantha Brown: You’re a woo! Gary Vaynerchuk: I’m like at the flip side of that. Samantha Brown: This is a he said, she said moment. Gary Vaynerchuk: And I like the sour pear flavor that I am getting on this wine. So, I like this wine. Samantha Brown: Yeah, okay. Gary Vaynerchuk: I’m sorry. Samantha Brown: That’s fine. I think I’m fine. Gary Vaynerchuk: You still hate it? Samantha Brown: No. Gary Vaynerchuk: Have I been able to nudge you in any direction? Are you still for— Samantha Brown: When you put it out the spice, I realized, yes my mouth did have a little bit more of an excitement that I was aiming for. Gary Vaynerchuk: It’s more intriguing. It’s funny. It’s very— ironically I probably score this time I’ll probably go 89plus on this wine. You know what? I’m not going to let her influence me. 90! Samantha Brown: Watch out, I play for the Jets. Gary Vaynerchuk: I like it a lot. I do like it. I think it’s a very intriguing wine that I want people to try. It’s going to expand your palate; Gewurztraminer, Chard, interesting thing. You get that you know spiciness but there is that creaminess because the Chard is bringing 30% to the party. But it’s intriguing. I mean this is what I love. I’m thrilled that you know, that we can agree to disagree but still each other’s company. Samantha Brown: Absolutely. Well, I wouldn’t go that far. Gary Vaynerchuk: Good point. All right, let’s move on and finish this up with Petit Verdot. Samantha Brown: The more wine I drink, the more I love your company. Gary Vaynerchuk: You’re going to drink this. Samantha Brown: I am only kidding. Gary Vaynerchuk: You know listen, everything—try this out. You know what I mean? Samantha Brown: Pour to the top, where is the straw? Gary Vaynerchuk: You know, there you go. There you go. So, you know you’re like on my dating days. All right, so, let’s focus on this wine. The Tormero. This is the 2006 Petit Verdot and as many of you Vauniacs out there know this is one of my favorite varietals in the world, one of the most underrated varietals in the world. I feel like it can do its own thing. It doesn’t nee to be a blended grape. It’s not just a backup singer. This is the 06 Reserva, 90 points Jay Miller, US$26, so it’s not in expensive but it’s from Argentina. It’s an interesting varietal. Samantha Brown: You want to get the—Watch out! Watch out. Gary Vaynerchuk: It’s to be like I will pour a little out to make it a little more manageable for you. Samantha Brown: Oh, wow. Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes, they’re going to all leave comments about, “Why did you waste wine, you jerk!” Samantha Brown: I would have checked that. Gary Vaynerchuk: All right, let’s sniffy sniff it up. Now, how do you fair on red wine? Samantha Brown: See, I am in love right now. This is the glass I love. Gary Vaynerchuk: I know, I know, I’m good, right, it’s a black— Samantha Brown: It really is, you know. Gary Vaynerchuk: So, are you more of a red wine drinker? Samantha Brown: No, actually I am more of a white wine. I become more of a white wine drinker. Gary Vaynerchuk: Okay. Yeah. I am as well. Samantha Brown: It wasn’t when it puts me to sleep, unfortunately. Gary Vaynerchuk: Good, good. Drink up. Samantha Brown: So, it’s just sort of a—no occupational hazard when you’re on television just to be you know. Gary Vaynerchuk: Sure. Samantha Brown: But this is I love. Gary Vaynerchuk: What are you picking up on the nose? Samantha Brown: Oh I just—rich fruits, deep, deep earthy tones but of velvet; velvety finish. Gary Vaynerchuk: Yeah, I like the way you’re going there. Samantha Brown: It’s smooth. Gary Vaynerchuk: The two biggest things that I pick up is really dark, black fruit like blackberries, blueberries and a granite kind of pencil shavings, lead, kind of like granite thing going on. Samantha Brown: Just to give it a little zip because you don’t want to be too flat with velvet but it is smooth. Gary Vaynerchuk: It does smell like it’s going to be smooth. Samantha Brown: It is like—my goodness. Gary Vaynerchuk: So aromatically you enjoy this. Samantha Brown: Oh, it’s just beautiful. Gary Vaynerchuk: All right, let’s give it a whirl. Samantha Brown: It’s very white in a glass. I was never good at expectorating, it’s a gorgeous drinking. Gary Vaynerchuk: Did you get caught by Barry’s beard or something on there? Samantha Brown: I don’t know. I always had a hard time drinking and eating on camera, unfortunately. It delivers with the taste as well. Wow, that is a good, good wine. Gary Vaynerchuk: You like this? Samantha Brown: Yeah, you know why? Because it ends, it just kind of teases you. It gives you what you want in the taste and then it goes away. It doesn’t linger. Like right now, the taste is gone and I like that. Gary Vaynerchuk: You like— Samantha Brown: It’s not like completely overtaking my mouth feel. Gary Vaynerchuk: Right. And to me that’s a little bit of a shortcoming of a wine. I feel like the lack of a long finish here hurts it a little bit. I think thea flavor profile is really good. I like the chalkiness. Samantha Brown: Yeah, yes absolutely. Gary Vaynerchuk: I think there’s a substantial bit of chalkiness on this wine that I like. The blackberries and the blueberries, very dark fruit; there is no, “oh, is this strawberry? Cherry?” That is not really what is happening. This is much darker, almost you know, not milk chocolate, dark chocolate. You know, so it’s got that whole thing going on. It’s got that tall, dark and handsome thing going on, right? Samantha Brown: Yeah. It really does. Gary Vaynerchuk: I like it. I think it’s slightly overpriced. I think it’s slightly overrated for me because this is a weird show. It’s a—kind of day.
