Hey! Everyone and welcome to BFX. This week, we’ve got we go back in time and bring you a build that a lot of you probably haven’t seen. Please enjoy the newly combined space suit build.
Shopping List
Two rolls of white duct tape $10.00, a 100 feet of white rope $10.00, a painter suit $5.00, gloves $5.00, six feet nylon strap $3.00, and miscellaneous plastic junk $10.00, two old bike helmets in the plastic plate for an old TV $7.00, aluminum mesh $3.00, one used leg warmer $2.00, plumbers epoxy $5.00, and 2 tap lights.
Start by putting the painter suit on your subject and taping sections along the legs and arms for a better fit. The futuristic materials created by adding two links of ropes at the back side of the strap of tape. Start applying this to the suit and you will see a rib effect develop. You don’t have to apply the ribbing everywhere. Just stick to the areas that you will see. This is a very tedious process so take a break and spray paint your plastic accessories, then go back and add more tape to your legs.
Next, take your painted back pack piece and drill some nylon straps at the back. Then tape this in place on the back of the suit. Partly because the zipper broke, I decided to add a front flap. I measured and cut a piece of cloth then use as similar technique to cover it. Then use belt crow to attach into the suit. The last step is to tape on the other accessories. I started by ripping up the Styrofoam material from inside the helmets. I needed to make room for the face plate and neck using a help pry measured and mark through I would cut.
Then using a rotary tool, I remove these pieces. Now, we can put the face plain on the front helmet and use plumber epoxy to seal it in place. Next, I can carefully place two patches of aluminum mesh over the vents. The bottom vents covered in tape and the top vents with the black fabric so your actor can breath. I taped up the vents in my other helmet then paint it both flat white with the base coat of silver. While that dry, they made two strips of futuristic material using the same method as the space suit. Taping this in place fills the gap between the two helmets. The last step is to add some belt crow in padding and of course, a non-working air hose from the back of the helmet to the pack and don’t forget the tap lights.
All right, that’s it for the BFX redux. Next Monday, we’ve got Hollywood effects and the Monday after that, our BFX watchmen special.
