Hello everybody, welcome to Wine Library TV, I am your host Gary Vaynerchuk, and this my friends is the thunder show, aka, the internet’s most passionate and loudest intro wine show. Laid back Friday, Matt, you know there’s a lot of people talking about it, blind Monday, laid back Friday, kind of like where’s that going.
Here we are on a laid back Friday with a huge Jets fan, Jets game coming up this Sunday against the 10-0 Titans, Matt, you could be game two Cardinals 7-3, you should probably beat them, but they score a lot of points. They do seem as their guys just stood there. I’m excited, pretty elite, we had a crazy day today. I have a lot to do, but most of all, I’m excited because, I feel like we’ve caught, I don’t know if I call it second wind, but like almost like18th wind on the thunder show. I’m excited about the education aspects. I feel we had some good show on that level, read through a lot, far majority for the 400 plus comments. Saw some people saying, I was getting back my mojo, got me excited, and you know. I want to get back into the laid back Friday just, I want to definitely do more blind tastings, I’m definitely do more cool guests including one of our 8th tape, and you’ll see probably next week.
And just going to make sure if the numbers from the last couple of thanksgiving weeks, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. If enough fewer shipping coz this is a pretty big guest, and I want to keep it experimenting. Showing you nice wines, talking about things, doing shout outs like Jared and Stacy’s 6th wedding anniversary wonderful years together. They said so, a happy anniversary to Roberto and Karen, Roberto, a big vaniac. Great guy, love him, a 17th wedding anniversary, congratulations, you guys are the best and Phil Mahony. Hhappy birthday, so I want to continue to talk about education. I want to keep showing you places like the Madiran, which is in the south west of France, which is a place that has really interesting wines. Specifically a great Prado called Tenet, which is a very serious dark big grape.
That is a big grape bridal out of the Madera area in France, and what’s ironic about this wine, Matt, the Pierre Laplace Sarl I circled here so that people can see the pusure. We did this in February 2008 the 2004 vintage; this is the ’06 vintage. Now, Madiran is a very interesting place in southwest of France, it’s about 3,200 acres large. They produce about 10 million bottles out of the Madiran each year from the clay and limestone style vineyards ground to water, they’ve come from. All red wine, and to be a wine from the Madiran, it must be, you know, classified AOC, Appellation Origin Control, let’s put that right, let’s show them that Matt. Right there, the AOC, Appellation Origin Control, you could see here maybe, where my finger Matt, that it is 60 percent tannat, and it cost 10 US dollars. To be a Madiran wine, it must be 40 percent tannat, so if it is 35, they could not call it, tannat. It has to be 60, 40, excuse me, percent tannat, minimum.
As you can see this one, 60, it’s also 20 percent cabernet franc, it’s also 20 cabernet sauvignon, so it’s a blend, but predominantly tannat, sometimes you get a hundred percent tannat. Those are the real big boys, the thing with this grape viradal, the tannat grape, is it’s very tight, very tonic, very serious, no bull crapping allowed, just a dark, long aged wine that will last much longer than saran cabernet. You get a 100 percent tannat, you could probably outlive a human being. I mean, long agers, big wines. Let’s give it a little pour in here, stem less glass today coz I want to keep mixing it up, plus ironically I drink out of a stem less glass at home much, much more than anything else, and so, you know, in thunder show Matt, it’s always in the glass, so, fun to have a little stem less here. So yeah, I want to keep educating and pushing the envelope, having great guests, doing fun stuff like the blind.
Definitely getting back into my zone of the laid-back Friday couch, and keep finding areas, I mean, I’ve searched Madiran on Wine Library TV and got one result. In the top corner, if you saw the search. I searched Madiran, one result, the ’04 version of this, so I figure it’s time to talk about Madiran again, and it wasn’t even a Madiran show. It’s like southwest France, so, we’ve never done a tannat Madiran show Matt, so the question of the day today is homework for the weekend is search some things on wine library TV. And anything that you don’t get a result for, that you want a show on, that’s what you leave in the comments. Got a lot of comments this time, I have a feeling we’ll get even more over the weekend Matt, because I’m going to use that as a blueprint for the rest of the year.
You know I want to kind of widen the library, so I want to do that for you. I want to continue to pump out shows. I don’t know, I feel really good, I just feel like, you know, another thing is, I did a 450 emails last night in my flight back from where I was, and so, I definitely from—. You know, Arizona, for my speaking engagement, so I’ve got to read a lot of emails and realizing that people get being inspired to try new things, are trying new things. Love the content, I don’t know, just gave me the pep to my step Matt. I just feel I got a big second wind, because we head in to our third year, three years anniversary February 21 2009, three years. I don’t know, I’m still doing it, still loving it, and I want to continue doing it for you guys for as long as I can even when I own the Jets. Maybe at half time we’ll do a live thunder show, that will be a hold up, so let’s talk about this wine, let’s get into it, let’s, very dark, you’ll always see great color guys out of the Madiran wines.
You know, just tannat dark wine, let’s give it a sniffy sniff. Coz that’s what I like to do, getting cross some really good dark cassis coming through, I also got a little tar bubble coming through. Little hint of raspberry on the tail end, but a really dark wine, still very tight, this wine has been open for about an hour and that’s probably way too little, we’ve probably like to see it open about another 2, 3 hours to kemp it, but very big, very tight, big nose. I do get a tar coming through more and more, little asphalt action, asphalt tarry, dark black berries, little cassis, but very, very intense, dark deep and focus and not opened not enough yet, to be honest. Let’s give it a whirl. Wow, very tight, big tenants, the inner linings of my cheeks are just pucker up city, really heavy, dark, bitter, you know like bitter, bitter dark chocolate tenants are coming through on this wine. So, if you like dry, if you like really dry and very big wines, like a lot of cabernet fans do, that have, you know, they’ve gone over oaked, but a lot of people like that, this is the kind of wine for you.
To me it’s a little too tight, again when you’re drinking young tannat, it’s always too young, it’s too young if this was a ’96, let alone a 2006 It’s young if it was an ’86, let alone a 2006. It’s young if it was a ’76, let alone a 2006. It’s young if it was a ’66, let alone a 2006. It’s, okay, you know, at the end of the day, this wines needs aging, they just do, and really, what we should really do is force them into a dekempter, Matt, we’re going to force them into a dekempter, and we’re going to come back, Monday, and re-taste it. so it’s going to be open for three days, Friday, Saturday, to Sunday, I mean it’s going to be three full days, this will be dekempted, we’ll see if we get a little bit out of this. Oh, I like it Matt, look at the, look at the handy camera work by the all star Chris Matt, so it’s really tough to evaluate right now. But at its present tense right now, the way this wine is coming across, I get a little bit of blue berry, but subtle, but I’m not kidding, this old tenants.
I mean just tight as a rock, tight as it gets, and really tough for me to evaluate, let me just whirl a little more, let me taste a little more. I do like the blue fruit, there is definitely a blue berry. It’s actually I don’t know, got a little more out of that, really dry. I mean bone dry, great tenants. This wine will last for seven to fifteen years easy, probably longer, this is very much an entry level, and it’s only 60 percent tannat, so it’s not a hundred percent high quality tannat, but, you know, seven to fifteen years for me on this one, big, big, ballsy wine. To me, if you got an old Italian fellow, you know, he likes the old world wine, and he drinks crappy kiante, this is the bottle that I give. I’m going to recommend this, there’s this guy coming in tomorrow that I’m going to recommend this to. Just you know, a brunello, borello lover, though it doesn’t taste like it, it’s got that bone dryness on the palette that I think directly associates with the old world drinkers. Kind of like wine used to be, really, they used to be a lot dryer, and more bitter, and serious, but great with food in a lot of ways.
A lot of the new world high fruit, high alcohol, oak aspects, you know, just the way we’ve gone, has really taken away that edge. That’s why a lot more people could drink red wine, it’s a little bit easier, but there’s something to the old school. Something to put a little hair on your chest about this wine that I think a lot of people would be attracted to. It’s still tight, but it’s very solid, I think this is a 86 plus point wine, I don’t think its spectacular any shape, because really I can’t taste that much. It’s so tight and so tannic, and so bitter, but it’s a nice wine, at ten bucks, it’s a great education. I mean, that’s what it is, expanding the palette is the key. Matt, you crack your nut to me that was unbelievable. Expanding the palette, is what it is all about, it’s a neat wine, 60 percent tannat, 20 percent cab blanc, 20 percent cabernet, big steaks, big burger, big foods, 7 to 15 years, drinking solely now. Based on the way I’m tasting this, probably 3 or 4 hours opening the bottle dekempting will probably will. Let’s see what happens after three days on Monday, even though we’re going on a totally different direction with the show, but pretty interesting wine, ten bones.
You think about that, really worth the experience, what are you for ten bucks of wine this day, a lot of foofoo animal wines, it sucks, so, think about picking this wine up, it’s pretty available throughout the US, and that’s where at after ten dollar wine. You know, it’s like get out of there, it’s like, you know like, you want to like, hunt for a snake or something that’s in a hole, you just wait, I just feel like we’ll going to be waiting like the whole weekend for the squirrel to come out of the hole. So my Jets prediction, Jets-7 and 3, 10 and 0 Titans, I think the Jets roll in to Tennessee, and loose 17-16 in a heart breaker, and then Carrie Collins throws up a prayer to Justin Gage at the end, and they beat the Jets 17 to 16. But we’ll going to fight gallantly, and then we’ll going to get revenge in the FC championship game and go into the Super Bowl.
Question of the day has been driven, home, it’s not really a question, kind of like a job. I’m sorry, but I think it could be really neat. It would be fun for you and Matt, we will promise, and you have to promise with me now, we will give a shout out to the person who came up with the show, because will going to search. You’ll going to search, you’ll going to search maybe zinfandel, or torelli. You can search anything, producers, wine makers, whatever you want, if you get no results, be like, this is what I searched for, and this is the kind of show I like. We’ll do a bunch, we’ll blueprint it out, we’ll definitely do it for all, everything after next week, I got a lot of thanksgiving shows, lot of value under 10 dollar thanksgiving shows for next week, they could find at supermarkets throughout the country like some, some tricks up my sleeve, for the better nation.
You, with a little bit of me, have a great weekend by the way. Thank you so much to everybody who leaves comments and emails me, that appreciates the show. You know I think, we’ve been doing it for so long, and I miss so many of you. Some of you have been coming back out of the wood works, which would be making me feel so tremendous and, I just hope everybody’s well, we’re changing the wine world.
